Looks like we have a new boutique label that aims to specialize in "genre" cinema (credit Home Theater Forum), and their first title is said to be The Case of the Bloody Iris, a 1972 giallo. When I read the news the first thing that came to mind was, Oh, just another purveyor of highbrow cinema, but my enthusiasm was sustained after the first title was revealed. There's always room for more boutique companies, especially ones that care about top notch presentation so this should be interesting. Hopefully they have a very broad range of "genre" titles and don't veer into arthouse territory. We already have plenty of labels doing that.

Can't remember the last time I purchased a physical media release of a giallo (it's not because I've gone off them. Have just been focusing my mind on other genres/sub-genres in film).

Don't have The Curse of the Bloody Iris on physical media. This new boutique label I've read nothing much about (apart from your post Cinema and a mention elsewhere on the forum a few weeks ago), but they do sound promising.

The more labels the merrier. Bring it on, I say! I am always open to more 4K restorations of classic films - cult, genre, and what-have-you.

Hope they can delve into the criminally underappreciated Eurospy genre as well!

I just hope this is a legit company. I remember a new label was coming out and they were going to release Raiders of Atlantis, but in reality Severin had it and I wonder if it was done just to find out if someone had the rights in the US. The Case of Bloody Iris is a pretty big giallo title and I would have imagined other labels had their eyes on this for awhile.

Established companies do the same thing. It wasn't that long ago that Synapse rushed out a blu-ray for Thriller a few months before Vinegar Syndrome did.

Was that the company that was also suppose to release The Shark Hunter on Blu-ray?

I still don't quite understand what happened there, but it seems like both companies had the rights to the film, but only one was able to do a new restoration for it.

I don't think so. They announced Raiders of Atlantis, followed by some KISS type zombie film if I remember correctly.

Yeah, Iris is a pretty big title for the genre. I agree, you would think Severin/VS would be interested in it years ago. Hopefully they slam this one out soon, as I would expect low output from them, but nice titles when they do come out. It would really suck if this never comes out, as Iris is a great gialli that needs to be on an HD disc. Now is the waiting game, as we all know very well with these companies.

I'm assuming the Blu-ray will also include the film?

Yes, it will. The combo contains the movie on Blu-ray and on 4K UHD.

Can you say if there will be anymore giallo titles next year? Maybe Black Belly of the Tarantula and The House with Laughing Windows are in the works, too

Yes, we have other gialli in the works. While we do plan to diversify in the future, at this time, gialli are our main focus.

Great to hear! Will The Case of the Bloody Iris have special packaging/slipcover?

Please tell us it's a boxset. Also, please consider use original Italian title for the artwork!

Hope we can see Death carries a cane in the future on UHD.

If I can give a suggestion is no Digital Noise Reduction on the transfer and be careful with the HDR so we don't get "hot" colors like some other companies.
