Is it just me, or are 4K releases getting insanely expensive lately?”

I love collecting physical media steelbook, limited editions, the whole deal. But wow… I just saw karate kid legend 4K steelbook going for €70, and even the standard 4K edition was €47.

I get that we’re paying for quality, limited print runs, and collector packaging, but at some point it just feels too much, even for those of us who are passionate collectors.

Like, I’m not trying to buy a car just a movie I love.

Don’t get me wrong, I still prefer owning physical media (streaming doesn’t compare), but lately it feels like being a collector is turning into a luxury hobby. And often you’re just getting a fancy case and maybe a few postcards for the price bump.

Which country are you from? It could be those prices are price holders.

I live in the Netherlands, and so far the standard prices for new steelbooks here have always been €52 or lower. I’ve never seen a steelbook this expensive before €70 for Karate Kid: Legends is really surprising.

It makes me wonder:

Is this the new pricing trend for upcoming steelbooks?
Or is this just specific to Karate Kid, maybe due to hype or a limited print?

I’m curious to see if other upcoming steelbooks (that aren’t listed yet) will follow the same pricing. Hopefully, it’s just a placeholder or a temporary price, because collecting is getting pretty expensive like this…

I wonder if "The Next Karate Kid" and the Jaden Smith "Karate Kid" are going to end up being locked to an Amazon Exclusive set.... It sure would not surprise me at least for "The Next Karate Kid", which should really test how far completionism goes....

Too bad they didn't throw in Cobra Kai.

I'd take a Blu-ray boxset at this point.

Ah thanks! Yeah, I saw that too £35 is about €41.50, which is way more reasonable.
Really makes me wonder why it’s listed at €70 here in the Netherlands. Maybe it is just a placeholder price after all. Hopefully the local listings adjust before release.

Appreciate the heads-up! 👌

Sony/Disney only. Sony is overpricing their 4Ks just like they do their electronics.

Not a lot there, but not nothing. A commentary would have been nice.

Curious to know if there's anything new for the other movies in the Ultimate set.

Thanks. Where are these listed?
New content for 2, 3, and Next. 1 and 2010 is probably same extras.
