Default Bubblegum Crisis Ultimate Edition Blu-ray Set Kickstarter Campaign

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...on-blu-ray-set

There's been discussion about this in the stickied anime thread here but I'm making this separate thread to hopefully draw more attention to it.

For those unaware, Animeigo are currently running a Kickstarter campaign for an Ultimate Edition Blu-ray set of the Bubblegum Crisis OVAs that will use the Japanese Blu-ray masters. If they get enough funding from backers, a new HD transfer for the AD Police Files OVAs will also be included.

I pledged $50. This is my favorite anime, I've been waiting for a port of the JP set. Hopefully there are enough like me and it easily meets its goal.

Pretty neat. I've never actually seen the original bubblegum crisis. I may have to join in on this.

Don't bother with kemcha you'd have better luck talking to a brick wall.

This is so cool. With only 420 $50 pledges to make the goal I feel like this is really gonna happen.

Never seen this. Don't really like anime, but I pledged $50 anyway. I really wish more smaller labels would do something like this to get great editions of their films on Blu-ray. There is obviously a market for this, given how far the Kickstarter has come already.

I have no doubt this will meet and exceed its goal. And it will be great to watch my copy when I get it.

72% funded in a little over 48 hours. I don't see any chance it won't make the goal.

I just hope they don't somehow bork up the transfer. I asked if any DNR or the like would be applied, and Robert Woodhead replied, "We will only do noise reduction (not grain reduction) if that is what the supporters want, and it's clear via blind A/B testing that it's an improvement. But I'm 95% sure that the final result will be to use the Japanese compression or a new compression from the same HD master."

Well, we'll see...

This is also limited to this Kickstarter campaign; there won't be a commercial version, though if there ever is, I was told it wouldn't be out until 2015 or later and wouldn't contain all the extras.

Wish I had known about this to get in on the $40 pledge. This is why mega-threads should be thrown out the window.

I've never seen Bubblegum Crisis. Is this a series about Mechs?

So this is only for the OVAs and not the Series Tokyo 2040?

It's A Story of Knight Sabers.

From Wikipedia:
"The series begins in the late 2032, seven years after the Second Great Kanto Earthquake has split Tokyo geographically and culturally in two. During the first episode, disparities in wealth are shown to be more pronounced than in previous periods in post-war Japan.
The main antagonist is Genom, a megacorporation with immense power and global influence. Its main product are boomers - cyberdroids used for manual labor and military purposes. While Boomers are intended to serve mankind, they become deadly instruments in the hands of ruthless individuals. The AD Police are tasked to deal with Boomer-related crimes. One of the series' themes is the inability of the department to deal with threats due to political infighting, red tape, and an insufficient budget.
The Knight Sabers are an all-female mercenary team and have considerable combat abilities using highly advanced suits of powered armor. They battle against long odds to overcome grave threats throughout the OVA series and preserve the overall safety of Mega Tokyo."

2040 is under license from Funimation. This is for the 8 OVA's from 1987-1991.

They wear mechanized suits but they are person-sized, body-fitting, more like armor - I've always considered Mecha anime more as having giant-sized machines where the characters crawl into a cockpit inside... I usually don't care for Mecha-style anime, but I've been watching the newer BC: Tokyo 2040 series on Netflix and have been enjoying it.

I like the OVAs a lot more than 2040 for many reasons but two in particular:

1. Big 80s hair.
2. Awesome 80s music.

Now see? Because there is no Anime sub-forum, I had no idea those two anime threads even existed on here - or this one until it was mentioned in another thread... Bring it!

I will have to say, the music in the English dub for Tokyo 2040 is bad... real bad. Been watching it on Netflix. I'm in on the $40 early adopters pledge level for this one, so I'll be anxious to hear some better music...
