If things were "spread out" a little it might increase traffic, to where it might be worthy of it's own forum. It's not like it costs anything, short of a little bit of server HD allocation, I believe.

Again, for the longtime posters, and regulars it's fine...as they are all "caught up". If we look at it from a newbie's point of view, having the flow of information spread out, might be more enticing.

I know there are a lot of titles I know I'll never get, but I don't mind reading about them, but not everyone thinks like that.

Plus with so many Anime fan sites out there, having a dedicated forum could only increase traffic, I would think.

Just some thoughts.

The fact this thread even exists is evidence that a forum wouldn't work. If I created a thread for the upcoming Hanasaku Iroha BD it would die quickly. It's been up for preorder for well over a month now and it looks like 3 people on this forum have it in their collections. There's not enough people that buy anime when its released for dedicated threads for each title to gain traction. It might take 3 months before I receive a reply.

I also have Hanasaku Iroha preordered. But I also don't feel the need to post about every little anime purchase I make. That would be a subforum in itself.

The number of people that have it preordered isn't the crux of my argument. Whether it's 3 people or 30 people you know as well as me that a dedicated thread on that BD would go nowhere.

That happens with dozens of BD releases in all the other forums. Those that are interested will chime in. Those that are not, won't.

I'm a huge fan of the Macross/Robotech, but I'd be lucky if I see a couple posts a year about it. The only difference I would'n't have to scan through 100's, or even 1000's of other posts to obtain that information.

Not bashing this thread, as I like it...but it's also the reason you'll see so many newbie's pop in, and ask redundant questions because nobody wants to scroll through 1000's of posts. Granted I know that happens all the time, but at least with it's own forums, you can segregate all the information.
I mean, does your filing cabinet consist of only 1 file for all your bills/paperwork?

I would suggest giving it a try, obviously keeping this thread as a "sticky", and see how it goes. I don't see how that can hurt, but I can see how it can help.

I understand and would not expect someone to scroll through 500 pages of posts but I also don't mind answering newbie questions. I did just find my first post on my page 3 when I was a newbie!!!

As long as this thread remained a sticky I'm okay either way...

As for anime, I just finished Penguindrum and would also recommend the series. Loved the beginning and ending (very unexpected)...but did find it a little slow at times in the middle...

If the demand is there I think it would be great, we need more than a dedicated sticky thread.

Just re-inquiring about this. With threads spilling out of the main discussion thread I think now is a better time then ever to get this started. On top of that it would be nice to put updates in threads about titles that are currently going to be released or something that is on kickstarter and keep everything organized. I still think this would work out very well with not only news about releases but we can also give our comments about what we think about a series similar to the movies section of the main forum now. I think it would be a great resource and addition to the site. I may ask about a series in the main thread and get no response for awhile and then someone will post about it and I will forget about it due to the length of time that would pass. With a seperate section for these it would make it easier to keep up with my question as I could just subscribe to the thread. It could possibly be separated into to sections for threads one for releases and one for thoughts and comments on a particular series. The existing official threads in both the DVD and BLU sections could be put into the releases section as sticky's for the members who still want to discuss there. I still think this site's membership base could support something like this based on my observation of the anime forums over at dvdtalk. Lets face it the Official anime on blu thread is starting to get a bit crowded as it is. I didn't look at it for about a week and was lost immediately upon re-entering it.

I too would like to see an anime sub-forum added. I think the big crowded anime thread we currently have is probably ignored by people who's interest in anime is more casual or old school, especially to those that don't visit the forums daily due to the size. I really don't like how information on particular releases gets buried so quickly too. A sub-forum would allow for easier access to it later on that otherwise could be missed by someone who would be interested to read it.

The Bubblegum Crisis Kickstarter thread I just started in the main forum is an example why I think a sub-forum would be better. The Kickstarter had been discussed in the big anime thread some but already a couple people have posted that they didn't know about it because they don't read the big thread.

I always wondered why there wasn't already an Anime section on this site... I'd be all for it. I'm currently subscribed to both the US and UK Official Anime threads, all three Studio Ghibli threads (US, UK, JP), Official Anime on DVD, UK Bebop thread, and the Mature Anime thread - and heck, even multiple Avatar: Last Airbender and Korra threads. It would be much more convenient if the anime threads were grouped together in a sub-forum - and I'm sure just the existence of a sub-forum itself would attract more interest and traffic to the topic. And, like Chronoclast mentioned, when new anime-topic threads are created in the forum, people will actually know they exist and can find them...

Perhaps instead of threads for individual anime series (except for some very popular/ongoing ones) there could be a few setup by genre - drama, comedy, shounen, mecha, fanservice, etc. to direct more specific discussions into.

I was originally going to come in here and be all "no, harumph!" but madlost1's post totally turned me around so now I say "yes!"

I agree that a big advantage to a dedicated subforum is allowing more "off topic-ish" discussion about anime (and perhaps manga) without the worry of going off topic in the current sticky threads.

I still think that threads for every title would be more helpful especially for someone who is searching for something in particular. For example and I don't know which one of us would be willing to do this but there could be a thread similar to how WTK does his over at the dvdtalk forums listing all of the releases that are due in a particular year. So say that we start the 2014 thread with a title such as New and upcoming titles for 2014. In that thread a list would be maintained and updated with links on the titles to branch off into that separate thread in the section in case someone wants to find out more about a particular release. There would also be a master thread with all titles that have been released and links to the individual threads to avoid duplicates from appearing and have info in that thread such as links to the titles review on the site and it's page on the site with release date information. My mind is overflowing with ideas for this possible sub forum. Now I do like the idea of threads with a broad overview discussion of each of the genres. I think that is something that we would be able to do in my proposed separate section where we can review certain titles and give our opinions on them.
