I'm getting ready today to purchase my first Blu Ray player. I've had a Sony DVP-S7000 in my system since 1997. It has worked flawlessly playing DVDs. It was Sony's original first reference DVD player. Now that the stores have the first ES player, the BDP S2000ES, I am going to buy it. I'm just wondering why no one has mentioned this new player on this forum. I have alot of standard DVDs and I am hoping that it plays them as well as my S7000 always did. Any opinions on the new ES player? Thanks

Yes, there is a thread about it already. Here it is:
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=34774 Quite frankly, I don't think anyone here will recommend this player due to its steep price ($1300) and its inability to decode or even bitstream DTS-HD MA. Oh, and it's also not a profile 2.0 player. |

Isn't the profile 2.0 just about internet connectivity? I just use it to play movies. And basically my preamp uses dolby digital decoding for movies, so DTS is not an issue for me. Thanks for the input.

Well, if those things aren't an issue for you, then save yourself $800 and get the BDP-S500.

It's not 1.1 compliant. It doesn't bitstream DTS HD MA. It's a lot of coin for non-current features. If I were buying a standalone today I'd have to choose the Panasonic BD-30. Frankly get a PS3 for $399 and wait for the next ES or the Pioneer Elites, or that new Denon. You might also consider holding out for a few weeks and look at the Panasonic BD-50.

I don't think he's ready to wait for another 6 or 7 months to buy his first player, so this situation kind of becomes a catch 22 of sorts.

The thing is, when there is a bluray with DTS, you will only get standard DVD quality DTS, which is still pretty good though. As long as you dont care about DTS HD audio(i dont care about the profiles either) then you are good.
