HDMI Wire Question

My dad just bought a Sony Tv and a Blu dvd (BDP300). He wants me to connect it for him, but he doesn't have an HDMI cable. I cant deside which HDMI cable to buy from stores like CC or BB. The 2 stores have HDMI cables from 49 to 200 American bucks on their website.

2 years ago when I bought my HDMI cable from a different high end store they just gave me a HDMI cable for 100 bucks, but now 2 years later I have no I idea what the conductors were made of (copper, silver or gold). I read that the Wal store sells HDMI for 35 bucs.

I dont want to dissapoint my dad. Is there a difference with the connectors and conductors when it comes to the price of the HDMI cable??

Theres no difference between the cheap ones and the expensive ones besides brand names. MONSTER is the beast in price, Dont go there.

Theres HDMI cables on the internet for less then 2 dollars that will do the EXACT same thing as the HDMI cables for 400.

EDIT: I knew crakinheadz would post that... He seems to do it on every single HDMI question ever.

Thanks!! I've been looking for affordable 1.3a HDMI's... ordered 2!!

Make sure you get v1.3 cables... I originally got 1.2 cause they weren't labled on the box, and it doesn't carry all the data like the 5.1 etc!!

Not true. All HDMI cables, even the original ones that came out at the time of HDMI V1.0, will carry multichannel audio.

V1.3 brings the potential (as yet unrealised) to carry more than 1080p60 video, and will give you greater assurance of quality than with earlier cables. For short cables, it probably won't make any difference anyway.

There ARE differences in cables, such as build quality. You install a few thousand TVs and this becomes relevant. Or try putting that Wal-mart cable at a weird angle. Certification for in-wall installation is another. Prices will reflect this.

Despite this, they still don't need to be expensive cables by any stretch of the imagination, but it would be an error to think there are no differences at all. There are numerous other threads on this same subject.

Let me rephrase that... HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new lossless compressed digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™. Previous versions (1.1, 1.2, 1.2a) did not have this feature.

while monoprice is a good place to buy hdmi cables, length is the primary concern. long runs over 10-15 ft require higher quality cables as there is definite signal degradation going on.

I've seen HDMI cable selling in lengths over 25'. Why on Earth would anyone need such long cable?

In-wall wiring is the name of the game. Front projectors, remote equipment placement, fireplaces, any number of reasons would necessitate the need for a cable of this length. Happens more of then than you would think.

If you get a bad 25' cable at BlueJeans or Monoprice, simply return it.

All my cables are from Monoprice. I own a 35 feet one for my Front Projector and the signal is just perfect and costed me abouot 40$ at the time i bought it...

I also have a couple of 6 feet one..

actually it is the HDMI v1.3 Transmitter/Receiver micro chips used that add the support for bitstream ability of TrueHD and Dts-HD MA (as well as deep color etc)...and has very little to do with what cable is used. Your old cable probably would have passed the audio just fine.

Most likely the cable you have will be sufficient. I wouldn't worry to much about it. And if the cable for whatever reason doesnt work, just go hit up monoprice.com
