Onkyo 805 is much better internally. If you got the cash then don't bother looking at the 705

If you can get it for $650 which I show Amazon at $763 right now then I would get it for $650.00.

Its very very heavy so just make sure your rack can handle the weight

Chris is definitely right, the 805 is VERY heavy. And while it does get warm, I've never had a problem with any overheating. If it fits your budget, grab the 805, I love it.

Also be wary of space constraints. My 805 is pretty big but you also need to leave a lot of room for ventilation unless you have fans built-in to your unit.
The manual recommends 8 inches of overhead space on top of the 7.5 inches of height the unit actually is. I tried a bunch of different heights and settled on about 5 inches of space above the unit. It does get quite warm to the touch but that's to be expected (there's even a sticker saying "Caution: This unit gets hot. This is normal".

The weight is around 60lbs just like the others said. VERY heavy. I think a bottom shelf is the best idea. I reinforced my shelf with a bunch of L brackets.

You won't blow your speakers as long as you don't push them too high. Meaning don't crank the dial all the way. Speakers get damaged more commonly from being underpowered then overpowered. You'll be able to get plenty of volume out of them without turning the dial the whole way.

Oh ya most important part: The 805 is a fantastic receiver I love everything about it. You'd be happy with the 705 too but if you can afford it and you take into account all these differences, I say buy the 805.

That depends on your own preferences. If you like to turn the volume knob up to insane levels then you might wanna go easy on your speakers. Overall it shouldn't be a problem.

I have the 805 and while it does run hot sometimes, overall it stays at reasonable temperatures after some running in time

I honestly never came across the problem with lip syncing issues on the 805 but there is a way to fix it if you find it:

1: 805 features an HDMI lip sync feature. Note this only works if your tv supports lip sync.

2: A/V Sync. Corrects lip synching issues by applying a delay to the audio signal. The delay can be set from 0 to 250 milliseconds in 5 millisecond steps.

So if you do notice this issue, you can play around with the A/V Sync function on the receiver until you get it right. I have no idea how the HDMI Lip Sync feature works though.

Apparently the lip syncing issues can come from playing DVD's with progressive scan players. No word on Blu-Rays.

Havne't heard of them but they charge you 37.50 for shipping. Also tax if you live in NY. If you go with Amazon's pricess of 699 with free shipping it only costs you 13+ dollars more. And of course amazon is reputable.

They look like a good seller. Lots of positive reviews and such but I agree with the above poster. Then you dont' have to worry about anything and you basically pay the same for it.

My 805 has become more important to my home theatre setup than my PS3!!!

But, not by much.

I just bought my 705 from Wholesale AV, and their customer service is second to none. I also purchased through amazon.com, like what you are thinking about doing.

It had been a while since I had bought anything through amazon, and I'd bought a new house since the previous transaction. I was so psyched that I got such a good deal on the 705 ($549.99), that I went ahead and placed my order quickly to make sure I didn't miss out on that price (I think they had like 5 left).

About 2 days later, I checked the tracking to see when I should be expecting my new receiver, and my jaw dropped . I forgot to update my shipping address, and it was being shipped to the old place! I contacted Wholesale AV, and they made all the arrangements with UPS to intercept the package, and it ended up being sent back to them. I gave them my new address, and they promptly shipped it to me, no grief no anything. The best part about it was that they didn't even charge me to have it re-shipped! I definitely plan on buying from them again.

Good luck with whatever route you take, 705 or 805. You'll be in good hands with Wholesalve AV.
