new player will be 500$... if by the same time play3 is also capable to get the bdlive function they really need to lower the price of their player

Ah to yet again get to laugh in the face of the hd-dvd trolls that said the ps3 would never get, or even went so far as to say it was incapable of profile 2.0. (same people that said that about 1.1 too)

Wow. All possible via a firmware update. Will PS3 ever be able to decode 7.1 surround onboard? I'm referring to Dolby Digital True HD and MA. My Sony BSP-S300 doesn't.

Well, Sony is the only one making anything Blu-ray, so they can now do what they want.

Toshiba, on the other hand, isn't actually in business. They are a non-profit consumer advocacy group with a facist egalitarian agenda. How dare you mock their humanitarian efforts.

They were right ...

We are now doomed because -only- Sony, Panasonic, Sharp, Samsung, LG, Philips, Funai, Sigmatek, Daewoo, Pioneer, Denon and a few others have control over the HDM.
It means Sony can price its 1.0 players .. like ... way up there at $299 to sell them. And look at the gouge ! A brand new 2.0 S350 player with bitstreaming of True Hd and DTS MA at $399 MSRP for the summer.
They are totally taking advantage of their monopoly !

What are we going to do ?

The cool the PS3 can update to meet certain criteria. by far i am a proud owner a 60GB and 80GB PS3s, and glad that i made the right choice from the beginning.

imagine the possibilities with the Playstation 3, IT IS BY FAR THE BEST VIDEO GAMING SYSTEM, AND THE BEST BLURAY PLAYER.

Not really with the new S550 will be able to decode DTS-HDMA, D-THD & it will have analog 7.1 connectors. It will be a superior to the PS3 as far as a BD player. I think the price fits the new player fine.

Looks like this Summer is a ripe time to jump into Blu-ray. PS3 with BD-Live, and also the announcement of their standalones being BD-Live this summer/fall...

This will be the sweetest update for a short time, i.e. when that in game XMB comes into play. (unless they bundle the two) BD Live on PS3 will rock, now where's my summer job for HDTV already?

Would have rather gotten DTS MA first, don't really care about 2.0 compatibility.

It has been a great day of player annoucements from Sony. In addition, we have this great news regarding the PS3. There is no doubt that Sony and the BDA are doing a GREAT job in the promotion of the format. The future is indeed Blu!
