Default Most Overrated Blu-ray

What blu-ray do you think is the most overrated. You can take anything into consideration (transfer, audio, movie, etc.).

For me, its Planet Earth. People always say that this is just "stunning," espiecally the HD DVDers, I just don't see it. The PQ is soft and its got a lot of noise.

Shooter. Overrated by this forum. It's not a bad film, but by all the posts in this forum you'd think it was super-special.

Id have to say Close Encounters. I thought the movie was very very slow and boring. I could understand people liking it though if they saw it as a child or whatever but I thought it was boring.

Shoot-em-up.

I dont see how that movie got such a high review on this website. Dont get me wrong, I love that kind of movie (loved Crank) but this movie sucked.

BTW Sunshine kicks ass

Apocalypto. Decent, but not great movie. Good eye candy, but I've seen better in HD. Put it this way, I don't use it as a demo. I rate Sunshine above Apocalypto. I use Sunshine as demo material.

Bladerunner...Movie was ok. But I don't think it merited 5 discs. Couldn't all 5 versions been delivered on 1 disc via seamless branching?

I completly agree. It is only so desirable, because it is currently scarce. abn average movie, nothing more.

yeah, it could have, but WB was still supporting HD DVD, which has a very difficult time doing seamless branching, and they wanted to use the same port.

I'm going to guess and say you're not a child of the early 70's or earlier. It was cutting edge for it's time and I feel it still stands up as a good example of how a "real life" visit could happen. We're spoiled today with flashy laserbeam filled, cgi alien filled depictions of Extra-Terrestrials. E.T., CE3K, and even Star Wars were fresh and new back then. Now, if the aliens look anything less than the Alien Queen, or less smooth than anything in Men In Black - people just don't get into it it seems.

CE3K wasn't about the aliens, it was the story of the people called to take part in a historic moment.

Hmm, a story movie with an alien - what a novel idea...

Cheers, Doc.

Casino Royale. The people look like plastic. I thought it was overuse of DNR, but people claim it was the type of lens used for filming (People used the same lens excuse for Batman Begins on HD DVD). Lens or DNR, whichever it may be, Casino Royale looks very bad to me. I can't believe that so many people will say a movie has great PQ just because 1 review "says so".

All the people in Casino Royale look like models from a Wax Museum.

Well it is an actual movie with a story and acting made before movies degenerated into three basic plot lines : Gunfire, Explosions, car chases and every swear word From the begining of time to now

I have an overrated Movie

300

I have always loved action & war movies although i hated this movie for these reasons.

1 - the 300 are barely armored (bare chests) so they wouldn't of lasted 2 seconds
2 - there is only 2 main action scenes with still only around 40 enemy dieing in each scene..
3 - the constant slow motion during kills ruins the genre and makes it seem unreal
4 - the sky looks fake
5 - the enemy also looks make believe or similar to Quake 2 enemies
6 - the leader is ALWAYS SHOUTING when he speaks?
7 - the storytellings seem unreal and mythological.
8 - i don't believe the traitor was really a hunchback again unreal.
9 - the mandatory grain again not real to look at (resembles a dream).

anyway goes from a war genre to a fantasy/mythological film. why couldn't it been like Troy.

I will vote for any Blu-Ray that does not include a lossless audio track. Ocean's 13, Michael Clayton and The Assassination of Jesse James come to mind. I am sure there are many more to choose from.

Maybe I am alone here, but I see no point in owning a Blu-Ray that does not have a lossless audio track. If you are only giving me a standard DD track, I might as well just buy the standard DVD and let the PS3 upconvert the picture. I know, I know.....BD material is better, but I think the PS3 does a very good job of upconverting.

Let me break it down for you.

1-Comic book adaption.
2-Those two scense account for nearly an hour of the film
3-To each their own
4-It is fake
5-comic book villians
6-they didn't have headsets, walkie-talkies or megaphones
7-its a comic book based in acient greece
8-comic book poetic liscense
9-overused, I agree.

IT'S A COMIC BOOK MOVIE. Anyone who doesn't understand that it is a comic book movie has no right to complain if they didn't like it b/c it was or wasn't this or that type of other movie. If you know what to expect you can appreciate for what it is or know that you won't enjoy it and not waste your money. This proves that ignorance is not bliss, its a hole in your pocket.

Chronos.

Since this thread probably isn't best to argue with people over their choices, we all have our tastes but I did want to make one little comment.

Because, then it would have been like Troy (which I liked as well). I enjoyed 300 for all the reasons you didn't.
