Talking Most Overrated Actors

Seems to me that these days nobody has to ever branch out or show any range at all and is considered "fantastic" or the best in hollywood, so I thought I would ask you movie fans, who you believe to be the most overrated LIVING actors are today. I'll start off with my picks, Bruce Willis.

I tend to prefer actors who can show real range and actually transform themselves into any role, and are willing to try anything, for example, Gary Oldman or Johnny Depp. For the simple fact that Bruce Willis has always chosen the easy safe roles, such as the same smart ass cop or another form of law enforcement or military role since 1988, RARELY reaching beyond that to show any real skills, and when he has it's almost always been painful to watch and IMO is the most overrated actor of today. Is his new movie something new? No he is YET AGAIN, a smart ass cop. Let review:

Cop Out (2010) .... Jimmy Monroe
Planet Terror (2007) .... Lt. Muldoon
Live Free or Die Hard (2007) .... John McClane
Grindhouse (2007) .... Lt. Muldoon
The Astronaut Farmer (2006) .... Col. Doug Masterson
16 Blocks (2006) .... Det. Jack Mosley
Sin City (2005) .... Hartigan
Hostage (2005) .... Jeff Talley
Tears of the Sun (2003) .... Lieutenant A.K. Waters
Hart's War (2002) .... Col. William A. McNamara
Unbreakable (2000) .... David Dunn
Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995) .... John McClane
Striking Distance (1993) .... Det. Tom Hardy
The Last Boy Scout (1991) .... Joe Hallenbeck
Die Hard 2 (1990) .... Lt. John McClane
Die Hard (1988) .... Officer John McClane

You contradict yourself. Johnny Depp has shown about as much range in the last 15 years as Bruce Willis.

+1

He's played a gangster, a pirate, and now the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. That's called "range" and "talent"

However, I think Sylvester Stallone is an overrated actor. He's good, but not one of the best.

Depp is one of my favorites. No range? Almost every single movie he does he's different. I doubt you'll find any more actors with more range.

Edward Scissorhands, Who's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Libertine, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Alice In Wonderland, Blow, From Hell etc.
All extremely different roles, and differently played.

I do agree that he has some roles that he plays in a similar fashion, but every great actor has a trademark. His is "weird" roles, often in cooperation with Tim Burton :-) And despite his versatility, its these roles I love him for.

Most overrated actor, and a guy that basically only can play himself is;
George Clooney

Although you are correct w/ your breakdown of Willis, the only problem I see w/ your argument is that Bruce Willis is NOT considered a great actor. He is liked and well respected but he is nowhere near Academy calibur (except maybe The Sixth Sense which was left off your list).

To me George Clooney is insanely overrated!! Let the backlash begin.......

Well of course you'd disagree with me, without bringing ANYTHING to the conversation which is what you do in ever thread of mine. Any one Johnny Depp role is better than anything Bruce Willis has ever done or will ever do. I can't even see how that comparison could even be made, except to disagree with me without a point. So since you felt inclined to join it, how about actually doing what everybody else is, and stick the the topic at hand.

I will say:

Al Pacino. Don't get me wrong, he's good, but not up there with De Niro and Tom Hanks like everyone says. Just IMO.

To me you have to distinguish between popularity and acting skills, and those two are great actors.

Overrated to me is Eddie Murphy with the exception of Donkey, all the movies he have done lately are terrible, but still they give him superstar treatment and starring roles.

I am sure that everyone has reasons for their picks. However, Daniel Day Lewis and Marlon Brando are two of the best...ever . My pick for most over rated actor is Matthew McConaughey.
