Default 1080p/24fps TV under $2000?

Hi all,

I'm looking to finally upgrade my tiny Samsung to a much larger display. I want my TV to be at least 40", 1080P and 24fps. I've seen a 40" Sony V series capable of doing 1080P and 24fps on sale at my local Frys for $1300, but I'm willing to spend a bit more than that and wouldn't mind getting a larger display along the way.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does it have to be an LCD? Find a deal on a 50", 55", or 60" SXRD while they last. I picked up a 60" SXRD A3000 for $1650 in town.

I'm pretty close to you in the Silicon Valley.

Flat panel or rear projection? Do you want 120hz? I got a 60A3000 (60" SXRD 120hz set) from fry's for $1499 a couple of weeks ago.

Samsung, Sony and Sharp make some great sets LCD flat panels. Be careful on some samsung models have a shinier/more reflective screen (71 series I think).

And yes, Fry's is the best place to shop in the Bay Area. What I do is check this scan of the add from the San Jose Mercury news.

Thanks for the response! Where in the bay are you from? I've never been a huge fan of projection TVs.... my dad had a couple a few years back when I still lived at home and I never liked them. I consider myself a TV guy, and I don't think I've ever seen a projection TV in person that didn't have some sort of issue with viewing angles, but to each their own. I'm willing to go either way with LCD or Plasma.

Work in Palo Alto (Fry's is walking distance ), live in San Mateo.

In that case I would check out the Samsung LCD's. If you have ambient light at all I'd go with the "69" (last two digits) models and not the "71". Breakdown goes like this on Samsungs.. Model number = LNT4669 = 46 is the size 46" and 69 equal's the stye. Sony XBR4's (and 5's basically the same with a longer factor warranty and black frame versus gray) are fantastic as well.

I like Plasma's as well if you have ideal conditions (not a lot of ambient light) and don't plan on doing much gaming. Image retention being one of the main gripes after glare as to why I didn't keep the one I had. At night the set looked great but during the day I go sick of having to make sure my blinds were sealed alll the way.

I personally would wait for the new panasonics to come out the end of april.
They will be 2:2 pull down 48Hz, 1080p, 30000:1 real contrast ratio... they are Kuro-Killers... they will be beyond beautiful and 40lbs lighter than previous models. I am thinking of selling my current PZ750U plasma which is really good, for the new new panasonic plasma :-). They will come in 42, 46, 50 + inches. 46" is a new plasma size format they will have and therefore cheaper.
This plasma will do 24fps better than the sony... plus will have better contrast and motion flow and better colors and and and etc etc. Plasma blows LCD away on every level. It's the box u can show off.
