Problem Calibrating Brightness--Help Needed

I calibrated brightness on my 32 inch Sony Bravia LCD (U-series) with DVE and other test patterns which appear in discs such as the Fifth Element and Ratatouille, and it seems the correct brightness comes to about 59-60. But the thing is, during dark scenes, I see that the black background behind has no depth at all and is flickering--it switches from gray to pale gray like. When I set it it to 52, it seems okay. I want to know why this--shouldn't the calibration be the better one? Then why are the black levels worse at the particular calibrated setting?

do you have color temp on warm? (should be)

do you have any TV settings engaged that try to enhance sharpness,color,brightness, backlight...etc?

Is your TV on any specific video 'Mode' like "Cinema", "Game" etc? (use the custom mode if you do not already)

...usually you need to adjust the Contrast to correlate it with, perhaps this is giving you the trouble?


You can always inquire HERE to see if someone has the same TV and see what settings they use?

Yes, the color temp is on warm. But I have to use the 'vivid' mode becasue for some strange reason, when I switch to 'standard' or 'custom' pixelation (or something that looks like it) start to appear in some scenes. But when I switch it to 'vivid' it goes away.
