Question Question...

I don't know a lot about all these different av equipment and new blu ray players. If I have this AV rec. http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/2243.asp
would I be wasting money if I get the new Denon 3500bt blu ray player? Does have basically the same features?

No wasting money there The Denon BD player can decode the new audio codecs (DolbyTHD and DTS HD MA), wich your 4306 can't. If I had some spare change I'd buy it, too (to go with my 3806).

Just realized your typo there: It's either 2500BT or 3800BD. In the case of 2500BT it cannot decode the new codecs, only bitstream it. So since the 4306 cannot decode them, yes, you would be wasting your money until you get a receiver that can.

Thanks for the speedy reply! Yes there is a typo, I was thinking about getting the 3800 BD. I don't know a lot about the technolgy, but I do love quality and percision.

Without knowing a lot about the rest of your set up it is difficult to say what would suit you. The 3800BDCI is certainly a top end machine and will do pretty much everything that you could want, but unless it is matched up with a similar quality pre/pro or AVR or speakers then you might be better off looking at something else. I think much of the extra cost for the 3800BDCI is put into the audio side and upscaling regular DVDs. For basic bluray performance with audio over HDMI, I think there are other players coming out that may do a similar job for much less money.
