Default So, why did you go Blu in the first place?

Figured I start some "fresh" conversation...

So, now that HD DVD is fading pretty fast, looking back, what was the reason you decided to choose Blu-ray? If you've supported Blu from the beginning, I'm especially curious why you went with Blu so early in the game.

Personally, supporting Blu has always been the decision, without debate. Simply for the studio support. Fox, Disney, and Sony, are the studios that have the movies I and my girlfriend want. I love many of Sony's releases and Fox has the Simpsons...need I say more. My girlfriend is a big Pixar fan, so obviously Disney's exclusive support is a big plus.

Not to mention, for pure overall value (not just movie related), the PS3 is a great deal.

Never a fan of the PS2 (meh, games schmames ), I jumped on the Blu wagon when I heard the capacity of the PS3. Best multimedia appliance ever made.

I work in strategy for a living. Sony has a 99 year strategic plan. ANY company who can, with a straight face and board of directors support, articulate an long range technology vision like that gets my support!!

My reasons are pretty much the same as you LG. I did wait on the sidelines for a long time, 'till Nov 2007 in fact. Researching, and trying to predict which way I thought this thing was going to play out.

After the PS3 price drop, I decided to jump in. Blu-ray was a no-brainer for me. Disney was a big draw for me with all the classics (both true classics and modern-day) I hope to see in hi-def someday. Reading that the PS3 was one of the best players available (BD or HD) and that is was fairly future proof, I figured I had little to lose. At absolute worst, I'd be left with an incredible gaming and media machine (though I'd not call myself a gamer).

Of course, little more than a month after I purchased my PS3 and started buying BD's, came Warner's announcement, and the rest, as they say, is (or soon will be) history.

+1. I've been a huge Sony fan since the PS1, and even though PS3 owners have had it rough the past year, it appears that 2008 is looking to be an excellent year.

Love of Hi-Def movies.

started with HD ( due to having an xbox and the add-on) and fell in love with the quality. Also most of my prefered movies that i wanted to own was on that other format.

well sure enough xbox dies price of ps3 drops and with the format war going blu thought to go that route as well and got a ps3.

was able to pick up the other formats A3 player to run with the movies i do have for it. And will probably hold onto both till all titles from one format is available on the other.

was red, currently purple, eventually going all blue soon.

How about those new PS3 ads beginning with the Center of Entertainment 1-min ad? That was awesome. Now the news ones with Blu-ray movies are even better and if that doesn't want to make you go Blu, then you must be running dud blood in your veins.

It was purely accidental. I wasn't too concerned with HD-DVD or Blu-ray at first because of all the uncertainty of who was gonna win, and I didn't want to get stuck with having a useless player if I picked the losing format(even though I knew Blu was superior, that doesn't always matter). I actually got my HDTV specifically for gaming on my Xbox360, then my mom decided to get a 40GB PS3 to check out the HD movies on my t.v. and said even if Blu-ray loses at least you'll(me)still be able to use it for gaming. So I says ok, and now I'm addicted and bought my own 80GB PS3. I'm actually waiting for FedEx to deliver it today....it should be here any time nowAnd my mom actually bought her own HDTV now too So now we're one big happy Blu-family

Then you shouldn't "claim" the 40G PS3 as yours, like your signature says, lol

I got one free with my plasma. Seriously. I was going to get a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo drive... but glad I didn't. It's pretty obvious where there market is going. I wouldn't trade my DMPBD30K now for anything.
