Default True-HD with BDP-S301 and Onkyo 605

Hi All,
I've been reading that if I set my BD player (BDP-S301) to PCM that it will decode True-HD. What should my receiver (Onkyo 605) be set to? and what will my receiver display on the front panel? Any help would be great.
Thanks, Mark

You don't set your onkyo to anything will do it automatically. On my and yours you get the choice of mutichannel pcm or direct thats the only 2 choices the 605 can do. Give it a try is a quick switch back and forth and compare I personally like the pcm and on direct from my onkyo 605. I think you will like it better!

Make sure all settings are set to downmix pcm, the one section where it says lt/rt audio leave that one the lt/rt. And the last one also set to pcm, all on the sony.

OK, I have everything set on the sony to to downmix PCM, lt/rt and PCM. I have the Onkyo multichannel set to direct. But still no sound in the rears. Am I doing something wrong? I get sound in the rears if I change the Onkyo to any other 5.1 setting. My Sony is HDMI to the Onkyo

Hmmm, I think Multichannel sounds better than the Direct setting.

You are not going to get TruHD with that BD player...the only thing you will get is LPCM...

Are you kidding me??? Sonys website also stats it doesn't decode TruHD...EXACT words from sonys website about TruHD...
Dolby® TrueHD Decoding
No (Dolby® Digital Stream Only)

You going to believe some guy or Sony themselves and another website that has EVERY other piece of information correct about what audio formats BD players play???

So... Can anybody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Why I can't I get any sound to the rear channels? What will the front panel of the 605 display while true-hd is being pasted thru?
Thanks, Mark...

It should display the same thing as PCM since it is being sent as PCM. You are using HDMI right?

In the audio settings on the S300 is it set to 5.1? What does the receiver display?

Settings should be

Dolby Digital - Dolby Digital
DTS- DTS
DTS Downmix - Stereo
HDMI - PCM

You are playing a TrueHD track right?
