Default Onkyo 605, PS3, and Dolby True HD help

Okay, I have read the other threads (mostly for the Onkyo 606 and Sony 350), and I am still NOT able to get my receiver to identify(decode) Dolby True HD signal from my PS3. Has anyone figured this out?

PS3 audio is set to bitsteam (blu-ray audio set to Dolby True HD)
onkyo 605 has hdmi out set to OFF

thanks

set PS3 to Linear PCM.

The PS3 will decode Lossless audio first and send it to your receiver as PCM signal.

Your receiver will NEVER display "TrueHD" or "Dts-HD MA" from the PS3.

But you will still be hearing Lossless audio...hit the PS3 "display" or "select" button...it will show you the audio being output. Your receiver will display "Multichannel PCM"

you need to set the ps3 to linear PCM in order to get the loss less audio. When you have done this the receiver will show multi channel on the display as the ps3 does the decoding instead of the receiver. Just change that one setting in the ps3, then when watching a movie select the hd audio track and you are good to go

you will never get the Dolby TrueHD nor DTS-HD MA lights to come on your Onky while using the PS3...the PS3 is incapable of bitstreaming hi-rez audio codecs (not counting PCM). Therefore, you need to set your PS3 to "PCM" and then sit back and enjoy!

Thanks everyone! I hope I didn't rehash an old thread but I couldn't find this info in the search. Once again thanks for the help.

How can I get CD's or music that I ripped onto the PS3 to play in stereo? The receiver identifies it as "PCM multichannel", therefore I only get sound through front two speakers.

two options:

1. Go into the PS3 audio settings and un-select 5.1 pcm, and 7.1 pcm (but you will have to go back and re-select them when you're finished with music)

2. Connect an Optical cable along with the HDMI cable, when you want to listen to music change the audio output from HDMI to Digital Optical.

....yes, pain in the butt...
