Default I joined the blu team

Greetings all, I have been lurking here since Oct and figured I better join up.
I got my PS3 two weeks ago and am just having a blast with it. I only have Talladega (came with it) so far, but I've asked for Superman returns, X-Men 3 and Fantastic four and I am certain they have been bought for me. I'm sure you can figure out the certain two Sony Pictures releases I'm waiting on. I'm a little worried that Sony will wait and put it out as a trilogy for next Christmas season. I want my Spider-man movies soon.

The PS3 looks great on my 40 inch 480i tv, but I'm upgrading between christmas and new year's. Is the westinghouse 42' Lvm42w2 a good choice? Does anyone have that set-up?

Also I've noticed some criticism that the PS3 won't have a good attach rate for movies because Kids want it for games. I don't know if others are like this but in my case HD movies are important. I think my kids are excited about disney movies on a big screen tv. I'm pretty sure that the number of movies in my collection will exceed the number of games just like last time around. The Ps2 was my first DVD player (for a few months), but with the PS3 it doesn't look like I'll have to upgrade anytime soon, the machine is an incredible piece of equipment.

I'll stop rambling now.

welcome to the blu-team

we'll pick up steam in 2007, no way of denying it, with PS3 going into mass production and available in mainstream and full studio support as well as blockbuster movies from Sony/Disney/Fox.

Enjoy your stay, this site is getting busier by the day

Well done, the 'Blu team' gets ever larger, as far as TVs go, look no further than Sony or Sharp.

From what I have read, its a decent entry level TV. It has a lot of neat features, but the performance isn't going to be anywhere close to a Sony. But you are on a budget, you can do a lot worse.

Actually I have a space constraint. My entertainment center is built into a wall and the 42w2 wastes little space with the cabinet so its about the biggest screen I can get.

Sony do a 40" TV 1080p i think you should have a look at the 40V2500 (I am not sure as the numbers are different in the UK). It is slightly smaller, but Sony TVs are very, very good. Either way I would wait until after CES as most CE prices will go down and you will be in line for a big discount.

Yeah the same model is available here.
You can get it from www.bestbuyplasma.com for $1,857

They're a very well trusted name in the US for televisions.

I heard that the Samsung has overscan issues, though I am not sure if it is that one, if it is the F71 equivalent then I think it does, the Sony TVs have sorted that out.

High fives all around.

I'm in Canada and the Westy looks about perfect in the store. Sony and Sharp appear to beleive the exchange rate is still around 1.40 so they seem too expensive for the higher quality. The TVs should only be 200-300 more than the US but they seem to be closer to 1000.

Anywho they Westy looks like the perfect fit for the space and has gotten some pretty strong online reviews. The best thing for me for watching movies would be to get by eyeglass perscription updated .

Anyone heard when we'll see the BD remote show up for the PS3?

I don't want to cause LCD vs Plasma war here, but honestly speaking, if I would pick one of them for movie watching, I wouldn't pick LCD, even it has more resolution (1080p, for example) while Plasma has only 720p.

Welcome to the site. Yes the PS3 gets some criticism which is completely normal for the PS3. Who doesn't criticize the PS3? LOL. It's only a matter of time before disney releases the movies.

I wouldn't pick an LCD either except for that high end Sony Bravia 1080p. That is really good.

As for plasma, I'd go for a Hitachi or a Pioneer.

As for the Westy, I hope you do your research. Lots of PS3 owners have had difficulty getting the HDMI to sync. Make sure it does 720p (for games) and 1080i (for BD movies) natively! Very important with the PS3!

Yup I did my research. The Westy does full 1080p and also supports 1080i and 720p/i. The reason it is cheaper is because they did not include a tv tuner, which in the current times of the cable box is totally unneccessary.
