3rd Rock from the Sun
Thumbs up Hell has frozen over: A mea culpa from 5thDanMaster aka Oshodi (Red Ant)

Biggest DUD fanboy now turned FULLY BLU

http://forums.highdefdigest.com/showthread.php?t=47782

Quote:
I agree: Blu-ray is superior to HD DVD!

I now agree that Blu-ray is better.

I have been the biggest proponent, and yes, fanboy for HD DVD since the format was launched. I listened and bought into every sales point and spin that the HD DVD Forum was selling through its own media marketing machine and I bought it hook, line, and sinker.

As Oshodi, I was notorious for fighting for the Red cause and blindly defending the honor of the Red side. The whole while, I believed the HD DVD was superior, and that when the BD guys were talking about high bitrate audio and video they were just spreading FUD and trying to confuse early adopters into believing that BR was better.
So blind was I in my devotion to the red format that I saw every talking point by the BDA as FUD.

About a month before the end of the war I bought my first BD player mainly because I couldn’t wait any longer, and because I honestly thought that the war would go on for years. Upon playing my first BD movie, which was Fantastic Four II, I noticed instantly that BD’s PQ was as good as HD DVD’s, and that the AQ was encoded in a much more superior and powerful encode. That amazed me. I had been convinced that HD DVD was better in picture and sound.
Upon closer examination after watching 5 BD movies, I realized what BD supporters were talking about when they referred to their format as having higher bitrates and more storage space. BD movies have much better grade of pixles in their picture than HD DVD because they are able to encode their movies at a much higher bitrate than HD DVD can. The other thing that shocked me was that BD audio was twice, and in some cases 3 times stronger than HD DVD’s audio for the same high bitrate reason. The BD people, because of disc size, are able to place large sums of audio data, completely uncompressed, on a BD disc without sacrificing PQ at all. They are able to put in movie previews in HD, load up a BD movies with ads, movie, audio special features, interactivity, all in one disc. This is why the movie studios and every major CE companies decided to support BR.

After watching only 2 BD movies my family unanimously told me that (Wait for it) Blu-ray is better! I didn’t want to believe it, but now, after watching over 30 BD movies with uncompromised AQ and high bitrate PQ, I have to say that they are right!
I now understand why the HD DVD camp rushed out their player: They knew the powerful potential of BR. They knew that if consumers were able to see a completed BD player released simultaneously with theirs, they would see the amazing upside and advantages that the new BD technology had over theirs. They knew that they were peddling old technology, they knew that BD was indeed superior from the start.

We HD DVD fans were the ones that were fooled, we were the ones that were taken advantage of; but not by the BDA, but by the HD DVD Group! They deceived us by selling us old technology wrapped up in new covering and convinced us that their tech was superior, if not in size, but that it was superior in technology: Because they knew that they had a product that was ready to market first. Msoft knew that iHD would be ready before BD-Live, so they pushed the fact that they had more interactivity and picture in picture.

I now fully endorse BD, an apologize for my hasty decision to judge the format without close examination of what it offers. And with all humility, I say that AVS members like Thebland, Fettastic, Kevinca1, were correct in their judgment and support of BR, and that I wished that I had listed to them sooner.
Quote:
I am the biggest HD DVD ***** in the history of this war. I am in the top 2 of HD DVD fanboys at Blu-ray.com. If I tell you that BD is better, trust me, it is. I just came to the chilling truth.
Quote:
I don't like the idea of a game console in my almost $15,000 HT. It's not about the PS3 for me, it is about the great advantage that BR has as a technology that I did not see from the start.
Quote:
My wife straight out told me that BD was better! She noticed that the picture on BD was a lot more solid and 3 dimensional. She instantly noticed that the sound was by far superior and emersive. Michael Bay was right "BD is "sharper" then HD DVD"
Quote:
Trust me when I say this, if guys from AVS and Blu-ray.com see this, they would be trying to see if frozen lava were coming out of the ground because hell had frozen over.
There is hope for this crazy world and the human race after all

I've just clicked the link to the main forum itself where it was posted and it still annoys me that people are still ignorant and bitter. Read some of the posts further down in response, it's comical..

I couldn't resist clicking through and reading a few message.

The one that really threw me was someone saying BD couldn't be a better format in the PS3 as a "gift horse". That had me scratching me head for quite a while before I figured out he meant "Trojan horse".

But, whatever, the guy's Blu now, so don't look a Trojan horse in the mouth, I always say.

Hopefully we'll see more of this.

And hopefully we'll see more people here accepting those making the jump to Blu. I think this is the longest I've seen a thread like this go before someone said, "Who care, screw them, they're only doing this because they have no choice, I'll never forgive them".

that is what happened when you close your eyes to the other technology. I acknowledge HD DVD was better at interactivity, but I still sided with BD because it has many more advantages than HD DVD. Now, embarrased, he is crawling to BD side. He would be welcomed here.

No he wouldn't. That person is the near the top of the list of a relative select few that will not ever see a warm welcome by some of us.

Why? Because by his own admission...he was an unholy terror that was deliberately lying and misleading others.

Why would anyone embrace someone or something like that?

Like Lee Stewart and some others..."oshodi" was/is someone who should have been compensated for the viral marketing campaign he ran anyways. If he wasn't an official viral marketer, he really may as well have been.

^^ This is the concept that some of the wishy washy apologists and "Let's love and hug everyone now" folks just don't get.

It's not about "oh, we hate anyone that supported HD-DVD or bought into it." Not at all. I personally couldn't care less if someone bought or owns some HD-DVDs or not.

Some of us simply will not embrace people that DELIBERATELY lied and misled others for months or even a few years. Two different kinds of animals.

He admitted he was misled. He fought for a cause he truly believed in, and now the blinders are off. The war is over after all. The punches thrown in the process are completely irrelevant at this point.

This site is supposed to be about being an HD enthusiast. I say welcome to this guy.

In a few cases it comes down to outright integrity and character and possibly even a moral issues when we talk about people DELIBERATELY lying and misleading others.

I envy you and some others for this: You clearly do not understand some of the people you're talking about, the backgrounds involved, the actions and words written, history, etc.

You and some others who honestly don't know any better may welcome him and the likes of himand that's fine. But he will not be welcome by all, especially those of us who have been/were in the trenches witnessing what these people were doing and, in some cases, still are doing.

I like the way Gary phrased it in the Lee Stewart thread the other day and I'm going to paraphrase it here.

These are the kinds of people that turned this thing into a "fight" that should never have been.

Anyways, that's all good and fine. I realize that I'm in a ever dwindling minority with my POV and I haven't been in denial about the direction this forum has been going in since at least the Paramount news in October, so, I suspect there will come a point here where I simply either take it or leave it.

You know, JTK, I do understand where you are coming from and I can't tell you not to feel the way you do. I agree it should never have been a fight like this in the first place.

I think the only real issue here is that a lot of people got personal in this whole format war. It wasn't about technology, it was about being right and attacking those who thought differently.

But in the end, I'm just glad things are over. I think a lot of people are beginning to see just how personally involved they got in something that was never their fight to begin with and are feeling either remorseful or stupid for behaving the way they did. From what I can tell, most everyone just wants to get on with things and get back to enjoying HD theatre for what it is.

I agree that people who deliberately lied shouldn't be trusted. After all, they will lie again. People should be held responsible for their actions.

The question is whether this bloke is someone like that, OR was he just someone who really believed the hd-dvd FUD and now realizes he was wrong.

Everybody has a right to their opinion but if they are purposely lying then they should get what's coming to them.

It does take a lot for someone to admit that they are wrong, but you would think that instead of blindly following, if they would just do some research. And if they believe DUD has better fine but to just go by what somebody says sorry but that's just dumb

All I can tell folks to do is look up his post history under the screen name you see in the opening link, the screen name Oshodi, the screen name Lagosian...aw hell, he's got at least half a dozen screen names if not more across several forums... it's just ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure this guy falls in the former camp just because he SO unbelievably aggressive like you'd expect from a viral marketer with a crazy streak.

Who can forget oshodi's delusions of grandeur about his five black belts, his 2 or 3 Phd's and his unlimited wealth across several countries? It's the stuff of "legends."

He really was someone where I wondered which insane asylum or jail he was writing out of during "free hour" or what not.

So no. I personally will most certainly not welcome the likes of that here nor will I ever extend any kind of olive branch towards it, either.

I think the flames haven't been put out.

Oshodi/Julie/LAGOSIAN/5thDanMaster and any other aliases it had claimed to have three Ferrari F550s, two(!) 103" Panasonic plasma TVs one of which he got 6 months before they were released(!), an 11 bedroom house, some number of children and a wife of sorts (I imagine as Julie it was probably a husband). Realistically, how much of this stuff does he really have, I'm going to go with none of and say he is a teenage attention seeker emo.

LOL, Julie was another alias of his? The two headed monster for a long time was Julie and Deadmeat. Wow...

See that's where I really wondered if he was a nut with a personality disorder because he really would roleplay to some of those screen names.

Julie was truly a nasty individual.

That's the other thing people forget: These people were unpleasant and belligerent on top of everything else.

I envy the people that don't know what we're talking about, but a lot of this stuff simply does not deserve a free pass, to say the least.
