Default klipsch vs paradigm subwoofer

thoughts on these two brands......i am not going the online only route so im looking for options that i can find in my hometown. any suggestions on specific models from these two brands that would combine well with my setup. im only buying one sub for now but the possibility of buying a second at some point in the future is an option.

i don't have a price range at the moment, i don't wanna limit myself, i just want a quality sub that will complete my system. i rarely listen to music at home so it will mostly be used for movies. my room is 25 by 17 but i will be moving soon and im sure it will be a smaller room size.

I still think it would be nice to know your price limit and your speakers you have now...cause if you don't have a price limit then buy their best subwoofer...can't go wrong...oh by the way I vote for you to get a Paradigm sub...

my speakers and receiver are in my sig. and lets say i wanna keep it under $2000 U.S. dollars

i want something that will "blend" but still deliver a great bass experience, i dont wanna be looking over at the sub every two minutes because thats where the bass is coming from, but i also want something good enough that it doesn't get lost behind my speakers but adds that low sound to them.

Well the best Paradigm sub you could get is the Reference Seismic 12...which is a really good sub...Have you ever takin a look at the SVS subs??? I have heard only great things about them and at your price range you could get their best sub...I have heard many people say they went from a Paradigm sub to a SVS sub and the SVS blew it away!!! The SVS PB-13Ultra is going to be my next sub...that thing is a tank weighing in at 155lbs!!! WOW

yeah im not into ordering high end equipment online though! im sure there excellent speakers but i wanna buy locally, and i have narrowed it down to paradigm and klipsch because i have heard excellent feedback on both. just wanted to know how there subs stack up over the different price ranges.

i don't wanna over do the bass though because if i drop 2000 on a sub then move into an apartment it will drive me nuts not being able to fully utilize it.

1) The best Paradigm sub is the Servo 15v2
2) There is no SVS sub on the market that blows it away, and the Servo bests all SVS subs for distortion
3) I would agree that the OP should go for the SVS Ultra13 is he's okay with an internet dealer. SVS has a great reputation, so no need to worry.

If there's a chance this might happen, go with the Paradigm PW-2100.

Lots of power, good bass extension, not a ridiculous footprint. You should be able to grab one for around $800-$900.

This is if you don't want to order online of course.

Servo 15 is a dream, but retails for $2700. The seismic 12 is $1999 and comes in a MUCH more compact package (downfiring with side baffles aka "passive radiators" vs the front firing servo). The Servo is a beast, both in sound and size. You can't go wrong with Paradigm either way. Servo 15 if you want your room to rock, Seismic 12 if you have a wife who typically asks "ugh, do we have to see those speakers???"

I don't trust the build quality on Klipsch, and don't care for their sound anyway. I have, and love, Paradigm.

A month ago I upgraded my sub to a Klipsch RSW-10d (2 10" drivers, 500 watts RMS BASH digital hybrid digital) for $1,000 (MSRP = $1,200). I auditioned it in a listening room compared to Paradigm subs (3 different models) as well as other Klipsch subs. The physical size of the Klipsch is amazingly small but the depth & clarity of the lows were better than the much larger comparison models (I don't like booming bass). My theater room is 20' x 35' - I didn't realize what I was missing when watching BD movies until watching "Live Free or Die Hard" with this new sub. The digital user interface control panel on the top of the unit with 3 customizable presets (movie, music, night) is great for switching between BDs and SACDs and late night after the wife has gone to sleep. Good luck.

I have the same exact set-up for the fronts and main. I run Atoms for my rears.

I run a Velodyne DLS 4000R against mine and I swear I can never tell where my bass is coming from. Retails for about $600, I picked it up for $450. Could be boomy at times though.

I'd go with Paradigm's over Klipsch's overall just based on auditioning their loudspeakers.

His price range was under $2000 that is why I said the best one he could get is the Seismic 12...

Like I said I have the Paradigm PS-1000 and that is in a pretty good size room(17x25) and it fills the room up and you can fell the bass, I love it...I think maybe a sub like the PS-1000 or 1200 would be good especially if you move into an apartment...and the nice thing about this sub is that is has really smooth bass...no boominess which is really nice...

so the general consensus is that paradigm make a better quality better sounding subwoofer then klipsch, or is there no clear winner between the two.

any opinions on the ultracube series? 12 inch

and what exactly is the difference between down firing and front firing? when it comes to the actual sound?

We have a store here in where I live and they have all the subs that Paradigm makes so I have heard them all...the only ones I don't like are the PDR series because they are too boomy...So I do like the ultracube...and there are no sound differences between front firing and down firing...

And yes the Paradigm subs are better then the Klipsch...and make sure you let us know which one you get!!!

anyone wanna comment on the benefits of 2 subs vs one, like if i opted for 2 ultracube 10's instead of one 12"?

does 2 subs make a substantial difference when it comes to an enveloping sound. from what i have heard a sub makes or breaks a system and i don't wanna cut a corner now after i have already invested as much into my theatre as i have?

The Signature might retail for that, but the MSRP on the Servo 15v2 is US$2200. If anyone puts a higher price tag on it that than, they're inflating the price.

From the Paradigm press release:

Quote:
The Servo-15 v.2 subwoofer measures 20-1/8 in x 18-1/8 in x 21-1/2 in, weighs 114 pounds and is available in cherry, sycamore, rosenut and black ash. MSRP is $2,200/US.
I agree though, the Servo has a pretty large footprint. It's one hell of an inspiring looking driver though!

I got mine (Black Ash, not pictured) for CDN $1750. It had been in a client's home for one day and they felt it was too much sub for them. Their loss, was my gain.

They also have three new subs in the DSP series which might be worth taking a look at.

krazeyeyez, slightly off-topic, but how do you like your Klipsch speaker set-up? I was thinking about putting together this very combination and would like to know your thoughts. Thanks.
