Default Quick Blu-ray Question

Ok quick question
If you have a blu ray player
Say the bdp-s300
Sony sent me a firmware update disc thru the mail.
Everything works fine. Movies play, look great
I just watched i am legend
I got this player for my living room..plus i had some coupons and certificates for best buy that went towards it and couldnt be used on PS3
(((Yes the coupons & certificates were real not copied)))
Question >>>>>>>>
In the future when they release the newer blu ray players with internet capabilities and profile 2.0 whatver
Will you still be able to watch a blu ray on the older players?
Not get the online features i know
But just watch the movie and the extras that come with it?
I have like 10 blu rays and like 100 normal dvds that i watch on this player
Either way it doesnt matter
Just curious
Thanks

Yes, you will be able to watch all blu ray movies regardless of extra features on blu ray players. You won't be able to access the features beyond your profile though. You may have problems with certain movies not playing initially, but there will be firmware updates relatively quickly to solve those problems if they are encountered.

Actually, simultaneous to the PS3 update that makes it 2.0 compliant, all lower profile Blu-ray players will cease to function in any capacity. This was Sony's plan from the beginning . . . defeat HD DVD prior to the final profiles, then render all other players useless so that they reap even more profits from people having to repurchase Blu-ray players

Thumbs down

you'll still be able to see your old movies and the new ones, just not have access to the new features ...

are you interested in :
- watching a movie with online friends and having them take control of it, pause, rewind, stop ...
- being able to go to the movie site and access what's on it ... still don't know what
- having your online friends chat during the movie
- using Picture in picture : having a small box appear with people talking during the whole movie, without the normal movie sound/music ...

I guess not

You'll be able to watch every movie made in the future, regardless of 1.1 or 2.0 compatibility.

The 1.1 and 2.0 features will simply be greyed out on your menu. The movie and sound will play just fine, as will all the non 1.1 and 2.0 special features.

Believe me when I say 1.1 and 2.0 profiles are NOT "all that and a bag of chips."

The movie is what is important, and your current machine will play that part of the disc just fine.
