Hi all
Am new to the forum and new to Blu-Ray so please go easy with me if the answer to these questions are obvious ![]() I have a PS3 and a Samsung HD TV capable of 1080i output connected with a HDMI cable. The question which i would like answered is this..... If my HDTV can only support 1080i and i buy Casino Royale or another Blu-ray which can be played in 1080p does the TV or the PS3 just play the Blu-Ray in the highest supported Resolution of the TV ??? in my case 1080i. If not what Res will it play the disk at ?? I have seen on the back of bu-rays the resoloution some say they have been recorded/produced in 720i i presume this means the best quality u can get even if u have 1080i TV is 720i on the playback of these disks ?? Thanks in advance for your time and responses. Rio |

I have tried searching the forum but i cant find anything with the search criteria i am using (1080i and Resolution).
All i wanted to know is if u play a 1080p blu-ray disk on a PS3 set to play in 1080i and a HDTV that maximum playback is 1080i will theTV/PS3 automatically play the Disk in the best possible Resoloution within the playback equipment in my case 1080i ??. As i said i am new to forums and Blu-ray maybe im not using the right search criteria for a answer to my question. Any help would be appreciated regarding the question or searching. Maybe a sticky section would be usefull so that me and posters like me dont get frustrated and frustrate forum vetrans by asking the same question over and over again. Thanks again Rio |

YES.
I have a Panasonic PT-AE700 projector that max's out at 1080i (and a PS3). Just hook the PS3 up via a HDMI cable and it will do the rest, or if the PS3 confused set up manually. Casino Royale looks stunning along with a number of other 1080p and 1080i (mainly doco's) disc's. This from personal experience, I have almost the identical set up, just swap a 1080i TV for a 1080i projector. If you have to set it up manually just make sure there is a tick in all the box's except 1080p. It will most probably do this all automatically, just connect to your TV switch on the TV then switch on the PS3 and enjoy. The best quality you can get is a little more complex, but for the moment the simple answer is the best resolution you can get is 1080i (trust me it's nothing to complain about) or less if that is what the disc was made at e.g. 720p. Apologies from the above posters. We do try and answer newbies questions or post the link. It must be the time of the year as no one bites here - normally. I forgot to add mine is the PAL PS3 (firmware 1.6), however there should not be any difference at the higher resolutions between PS3 players. Last edited by Blue; 04-28-2007 at 03:05 PM. Reason: PAL PS3 |

Should be: Apparently you cannot read very well. When you have everything plugged in, go to output settings and select 1080i and you will be fine. Please don't point out something so irrelivant as not reading, he is new and just trying to get a question answered...Play nice now, we were all new at some point in time. Well said! That was a bit of a frosty reception for a new chap.
![]() Remember, newbies quite often have a simple question that needs answering. There's a huge amount of knowledge on here and the search section doesn't always yield easily viewable results. I'm sure it's not beyond us to answer the simple questions, even if we've typed the answer hundreds of times. |

Hola RiverDB Maybe if you read this reply, that I wrote 2 days ago on another thread, a couple of times, it may all become clear ![]() What I find interesting about your post is that you say you've seen Blu-rays where "some say they have been recorded/produced in 720i", which, me having about 75% of all US Blu-ray titles, haven't found a single one like that and know ofonly one 720p in Japan for certain. If you're talking game titles, the ones that are 720 are 720p |
