Default AV Amplifier - My New Setup

i am now thinking about buying an AV Amplifier for my room.

i have found this one, which gets good reviews and is a nice price;

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/5421...deo-ampli.html

i was after the following speakers;

-------------------------

2 Front Speakers - http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/6739...-stands-b.html

Main Speakers and Back Ones - http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/6209...speaker-s.html

(i know this is a full set,.. i just wouldnt use 2 of them)

---------------------------

would this setup work with these speakers and amplifier?

i dont know if all speakers have the same standard connections?

Which player do you have? The only reason I ask is because that receiver doesn't have HDMI input. Other than that, it's a decent starter. It does have SPDIF and optical inputs, so you will get DD+ and DTS soundtracks. If you have a PS3, you'll need to use the optical input to get the sound to the receiver. It's way better than that HTIB setup you were considering though.

btw, I couldn't get the links to work for me. They would stick on the page loading for like 5 min. I think I got the right idea though, you're looking at a Yamaha RX-V361 right?

both my DVD Player and PS3 use optical,.. so i think this is my ideal choice.

whats the difference with HDMI? ... would sound be transferred through HDMI instead of optical?

... surely the sound is good enough through optical?

Both the sound AND picture would be transferred digitally through the HDMI cable eliminating the need for cables for both picture and sound. What video source do you use? Does it have HDMI inputs? If so you could run HDMI from your PS3 to the reciever and run one from the reciever to the tv/projector. From there it is a matter of assigning them to the reciever and you are done. This is how I have my PS3 set up running through my Onkyo-805 to my Sony SXRD tv. Not to mention this is how you will get your PCM and DolbyTrueHD tracks to play through your PS3. Since the PS3 can't do bitstream you would have to have your audio set to Linear PCM.

HDMI conveys both audio and video to the receiver and the TV. Using HDMI you would be able to take advantage of the PS3's ability to translate the Dolby TrueHD tracks, which are lossless compression. Without using the HDMI, you will get the Dolby Digital and DTS tracks, but they do have some loss in the audio transfer, not giving you the "best" available sound.

That's a matter of opinion, and the only one that really matters is yours. You are the one listening to the system, and if it sounds good to you, then it is.
