Default What was the first pair of speakers you ever owned?

What was the first pair of speakers you ever owned.. doesnt matter brand or price... what was it about your first pair that got you into the hobby? what did you like or dislike about them
I Remember in the late 70s seeing the radio shack catalogs. Back then they used to make some decent stuff. anyways I saw a pair of the first generation Mach 1's they looked cool. then i happened to go to the mall and the local shack had a pair on display.. they looked ominous and threatening and I knew I just had to have them. I saved and saved up for them took me almost a year to save up the money for a pair.

I wasnt working much at 16 and that was big money to me. I finally had enough money to buy a pair and low and behold radio shack put them on sale at half price... I bought a pair and put the rest of the money towards saving for an amp. those things could honk back in the day. They dont hold a candle to what i have now but back then i think i apreciated the hobby more.

there was 2 versions of Mach1 speakers.. the first version was the best the second was known for rotting woofer surrounds. then came the mach2 later. I ended up getting a pair of mach2s but they werent quite as good. I was the envy of all my friends with that setup. we set them up in the garage and man we had some loud parties back in the day.

so lets hear your first speaker purchase stories?
