New HD TV question - Blu-ray Forum

Ok last year i bought a samsung 46 inch Lcd tv and the highest it can go is 1080i
I hooked my blu ray player to it and the hdmi cable and it looks amazing...i didnt think it could look that good! I just got into the whole blu ray thing about a month ago..i have 10 blu ray dvds.
Well me and my fiance are getting a new house. just waiting to do all the paper work now.

I went to best buy a couple weeks ago and they had a sale...only at best buy because i went to hh greg and it wasnt on sale there.

They had a 52 inch samsung Lcd 1080p full hd tv. It has like a chrome piece going around the screen..glossy black..and the swivel stand has chrome on it too. Looks nice..i got it for 1,900 including 4 year extended warranty.
Its now 2,500 without the warranty..the warranty is like 500 alone. So i got about a 1000 dollars off..Once again i dont know much about this stuff as of yet im still learning but this tv looked really nice.

They also gave me free delivery because they didnt have it at the store.
which was cool.

The delivery guys brought it in...plugged it in...looked nice...had some hd channels already on it..

Well when they left it went back in the box...lol i dont have no where to put it right now and im deciding on wall mount or getting a stand but i havent got to fully check out my house yet. (((i work...she looks at the houses)))

So theres a huge box with a tv in it sitting in the hallway...lol

Sorry about sharing this story...I just wanted to set the mood hahaha

My question is
Is there a big difference watching a blu ray movie...or hd channels on a 1080p tv and a 1080i tv

....because on my 1080i tv it looks realllllly good with the blu ray movies...My fiance thinks that the other tv will look better but not a big difference...but i keep hearing 1080p makes it look ALOT better like you can tell...

Next i will be hunting for a surround sound. any suggestions on that also?

On a TV above about 42'' you will be able to start seeing the benefits of 1080p. So you definitely fit in the scale of 1080p looking better.
