Default Onkyo 705 question

I just ordered this new receiver and I was looking at the layout on the back and I was curious what port is the right one for my rear center channel (the 6th channel)?

I have never used 6.1 but will be now.. I am pretty knowledgeable with home theater, but I cannot make sense of the back.

Thanks
Larry

The speaker hook-up.. I think it is the rear surround?

Just trying to understand since I have never done anything with 6.1

Thanks

It would be the surround back and it wouldnt matter if you used the left or right. I have this receiver, but am using all 7.1 speakers.

Great, thanks for the information.

I should have the receiver by the end of the week and I am looking forward to getting it set-up.

I would think in the manual there should be some section explaining how to hook up and set settings up for a 6.1 (only one back surround) (or center surround as it used to be called ) set up.

Question on this receiver... Does it Matrix in the 7.1 if the source is 5.1 (most movies are)? Does it do it regardless of the source (i.e., Dolby 5.1, TrueHD, DTS-MA, PCM?) that is being bitstreamed?
I have a 7.1 speaker set up but a 5 year old Sony receiver that I use the 5.1 Multi In from the Samsung. It won't Matrix when the Multi In function is on. To Matrix in it has to be a digital feed from the optical.
Just curious... the Onkyo seems to do anything and everything I could ever want, just wondering if it does this with lossless sources.

Hi, Larry congratulations! This is a excellent unit.
I'm a 6.1 user. Onkyo's Receivers comes with a very nice diagram sheet to hook up the speakers(colored).
Just look at back the receiver and you will see "surround back speakers". The manual tell that use the left surrond back connection for 6.1 speaker set up.
Then, run the Audyssey MultEQ® XT and good luck!!!

From having just read the manual, i think not. It will matrix a 5.1 DD or DTS lossy signal into 7.1 using THX Select2 cinema mode. Perhaps someone else can shed more light on this. Audio is still a bit complex for me as well - but i'm getting there

Yes, Panasonic Player is set to Bitstream everything with secondary audio set to off. When I select the HD audio on a disc, it is not showing up on the receiver. Also, everything is HDMI.

Compared to my Sony, this is a very complicated receiver. I am sure it is just a setting.

ok, i read above that you tend not to read the manual so i have to ask....
did you set the hdmi input on the recevier to a mode button? like hdmi input 1 set to game/tv?
