Hi all,
I have an RM 6880 polk audio satelite speaker system and the onkyo 805.I have connected the front L and R speakers through the subwoofer speaker level inputs. I know we can connect the sub using the subwoofer out from the receiver but i followed this article from the polk site .Below is the URL and refer to page 18. http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/n...er/issue11.pdf After connecting I did the auto calibration .But the Auto calibration didnt detect the subwoofer. Is this normal If I am connecting the sub by using the speaker level inputs?I dont know whether I am doing the right thing? If I am running the auto calibration: 1) should I still have to go and change the speaker settings manually? 2) should I need to specify any crossover frequencies? If that is the case I wanted to know how/where we can go and change the speaker settings in the receiver ( i.e Setting the speakers to LARGE and subwoofer to NO.) I went into the speaker settings menu but there is an option for subwoofer. If I set the subwoofer to 'NO' then the front is defualted to FULLBAND. But I don't see an option for the speakers to set it LARGE? Please help me as I am a newbie and sorry if this is a dumb question.. Thanks in Advance Jingo. Dude, your receiver can only detect the subwoofer if it's connected directly to the receiver's subwoofer line out. The way you have it connected makes the receiver assume it's part of the left and right front channel speakers.
Connect your speakers directly to the corresponding speaker terminals of your receiver, don't run them through the sub inputs. Then run auto calibration with your speakers set to "small" since they're not full range. The small setting will run all signals below the sub crossover point to the sub, and all signals above the crossover point will go to the corresponding speaker. |

Thanks King!...Few more questions...
I am trying to hook up the sub using Sub pre out(using RCA) from the receiver and get rid of the speaker level connections, and re run the auto cali to set it up with the sub woofer (speakers = SMALL and sub woofer = YES) Will that give a more deeper bass?.And also few more things.. 1) My powered sub doesn't have a manual cross over frequency set up on its back.I guess the crossover is in built into the sub by default to some frequency.I guess the crossover frequency for 805 will be handled in the auto cali..So will that cause a double filtration? 2) I am a music person and would like to hear more music. So if I am in the stereo mode how far the sub out from the amp will help me.Do I still find the bass what I expect in music too as same as in the movies( since the movies are in 5.1 I guess it has the LFE in th .1 channel) But for stereo do I still get the bass from the sub out from the receiver? Please clarify..Again thanks a lot! Jingo |

Are you running a 5.1 channel setup with your Polk RM 6880s? I think that's the only way it's sold. We'll have to switch gears a bit since the RM series has low band and high band crossovers built into each satellite and also the subwoofer. You'll need to connect the system to your receiver a little differently in order to gain full range sound for each channel.
If you can, wire your system to the receiver exactly like figure A on pg 18 of the link you sent. In your setup menu, set your left and right front and surround channel speakers to large - they'll receive the mid/treble, leaving the bass to go through your subwoofer. As for the center channel, if you can, set it to "small," and direct it's bass output to the front left and right channel speakers. Finally, change your subwoofer setting to "none." You'll sub will receive all bass, because your receiver will think your speakers are full range, and the low frequencies sent to them will roll off to the sub. Having a passive crossover setup like this will work fine, often better than many active digital crossovers. The only drawback is that you cannot alter your crossover points for the sub or satellites. |

Thanks a lot King!..Guess i will stick to the set up which is what I have now(the set up A as I have mentioned earlier)..The sub sounds pretty good..but I didn't happen to crank it up..
I have the SUB volume at 3/4th What is the right volume level on the receiver to make the SUB loud and nice?.Now I am hearing between -36 to -26 decibels and it sounds pretty decent. -jingo |
