Howdy fellas. As some of you may be unaware, I'm deaf and rely on the subtitles/captions to understand a movie.
By the way, please no pity about my deafness. I'm fine, nothing's wrong with me except I just can't hear. Not mentally challenged or anything like that. Heck, I have my own blogger account so I can write a bunch of blog entries, the blog site is called, 'Banjo's World'. Just wanted to let all of you know that there's no need for sympathy toward me for being deaf as I'm perfectly happy with my life. Anyway, back to the subject. I imagine a lot of you aren't aware of the fact that on the majority of DVDs and Blu-Ray discs, only the main feature (movie) is captioned or subtitled in English for the deaf and hard of hearing. Special features (making of, deleted scenes, etc) are often not captioned or subtitled in English. Though I'll acknowledge that Paramount has always captioned the special features on both DVD and Blu-Ray, probably the same for HD-DVD. I was surprised to learn that Buena Vista (Disney, Touchstone, etc) caption most of their Blu-Ray titles in the special features area since they don't do that on the DVD format. Though they didn't caption the special features for 'Eight Below'. I currently have 3 blog sites focused on 3 different formats (DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD). I don't have a HD-DVD player at the moment, but I do have both Blu-Ray and DVD players. • DVD: Captioned Special Features • Blu-Ray: Captioned Special Features • HD-DVD: Captioned Special Features So, I was hoping that some of you would be kind enough to let me know if you come across a Blu-Ray title where the special features are either captioned or subtitled in English so I can add it to the list. I hope some of the HD-DVD owners here will be kind enough to do the same for me. Thank you. |

Hey Banjo, if you start petitioning studios to start captioning all of their video materials, let me know and I'll sign up. The descriptive audio services for the blind should also be standard on BDs.
I've always thought that somebody could make a simple BD player that a blind person can use that will playback the descriptive audio track first, unless the command is overridden. It'd be such a simple thing to devise. fuad |
