Default No DVD/CD/BD playback on PS3

Hi all,

So I was watching a BD movie on the PS3 when the screen suddenly froze. I pressed the pause button but it failed. Then I pressed the Stop button and the XMB screen came up. The folder for the BD tray folder was in searching mode (circle going round and round) and then it disappeared. Now, no matter what I insert in the slot, it won't recognize it. I've tried turning it off/on and still won't recognize anything. Not even a music cd. Is there anything else I can try or should I just call Sony for problems?

Try to do a system reset. Hold down the power button until it beeps twice. You'll have to set everything back up, but I don't think that's too much trouble.. just know it going in..

Ugh. I did the system reset and nothing. Called Sony and they're going to replace it for me. I'm out of a PS3 for the next 2 weeks

For the ones here that have gotten their replacement PS3's from Sony, how long did it take you to get the unit back?

Going through the same exact thing as we speak. I got my return packaging and label Friday. I am dropping it off at ups today, and now the long wait begins. This system failure is becoming as common as the famous Red Ring of Death that the Xbox 360 is famous for. We sholud give the ps3 crash a name.

At least it was good that I did research here and kept my purchase receipt for the warranty. Otherwise I would have been SOL and paid to fix it.

Not even close. PS3 failure rate is still around 1%. 360 failure rates are ATLEAST 16% more like 30% id bet.

I had the same thing happen to 2 of my PS3's. My 60 gig and my 40 gig. The Blu-Ray drive just died on both, I had to pay $150 to replace my 60 gig cause didnt have my receipt. And I bought another 40 gig, cause I couldnt wait 2 weeks, LOL.

That may be true, but I have chatted with several forum members that have encountered the same failure. The thing is, nothing is 100%, and when you pay this kind of money for something, the bottom line is you want it to work.
