Panasonic VIERA TH-46PZ800U vs. Panasonic VIERA TH-46PZ850U

Between these two models, which one would you say is the better option? It's interesting to note that the highest-end TH-46PZ850U model does not include the THX mode which is odd considering its... you know, supposed to be the best of the best you can get from this line.


So, is there really that much of a difference between the two to justify going for the latter instead of the former?

THX is not that big of a deal really... my receiver is THX and has a few THX modes that I never use...

Looking at the specs side-by-side, does the TH-46PZ850U have anything over the TH-46PZ800U or has any beneficial features that the other does not come equipped with?

IPTV=Internet Protocol Television ie.) You can watch videos/movies/tv through an ethernet connection on the TV with highspeed internet

I'd go for the 800, not the 850. The 800 received great reviews on cnet, and the features on the 850 don't really seem to warrent the extra money imo.

save your money and go with pz800

the pz850 does have the Pro Settings, so if you're a nut about adjusting the picture settings a million ways it has that

but the pz800 has all the same specs, except Vieracast which is probably useless anyways


PZ800 is the better buy in my opinion

Well, being able to watch certain web-based clips on the set would be kind of a nice feature to have... but, I suppose it isn't a must... not sure what to do, though!

if you have the money, go with the 850... if that would be a squeeze go with the 800... its an amazing TV!

So, why would you go with the 850 even though the majority of features between both of them are the same?

The -850 model uses Panasonic's own "Digital Cinema Color" instead of THX, the two are mutually exclusive from each other. Panasonic obviously feel that their DCC is better than the THX standards.

THX standards are for HDTV colors, the DCC specification is supposed to more closely match the digital cinema standard.

Hmm... so, the 850 model might actually offer slightly better colors?


If the THX standard really isn't that nice or big of a deal, I suppose the 850 maybe is the way to go for someone who wants the best quality possible from Panasonic...
