Default PS3 Audio problems?

Has anyone figured out how to get 5.1 from the Toslink (optical) output without having the sound cut in and out?

The only way to get 5.1 over optical is to set it bitstream. You won't get the hd audio codecs, but you will get surround.

bitstream for the receiver to decode, pcm the ps3 decodes.

optical doesnt have the bandwith needed for the hd codecs

so if your using optical, set to bitstream

i have mine set to bitstream and it never cuts in and out. if you have it set to PCM you would only hear the stereo track through optical, not surround sound, but it still shouldn't cut in and out.

if you continue to have the problems after adjusting your settings (and checking your speaker wires for loose connections) i would replace your optical cable. you could have dirty or scratched connections on the end(s) of the cable or it could be internally cracked or damaged.
