I have a Sony BDP-S300 and I was reading that is an old profile.
should I sell my Sony BDP-S300 and get an PS3? what are the advantages ??? as a blu-ray player. not as a game console, I'm not a gamer. with one loads faster??? are they any disadvantages of the PS3 over my player? thank you guys. |

Also when profile 2.0 update comes out the PS3 is already built for it since it has internet capabilites and an included hard drive to store stremed/downloaded files through a blu-ray disc...also NEtflix is supposedly gonna be starting a streaming rental service through te PS3 so you could sample HD movies w/o leaving the couch (but u may want fresh air every so often) before purchasing blindly on a blu ray....

The PS3 can do almost everything and can be upgraded to higher profiles of BD. It's only downfall is bitstreaming audio, but I am very pleased with the sound I get from mine.
If you want more on the bitstreaming issue look it up with the search function of the site, but overall the PS3 is a disc playing monster and can do it all. |

Just trade it already. If we actually took the time to explain how the PS3 is better it would take forever. Trust me you will love it

Definitely go for the PS3. The PS3 is the most versatile BD player on the market, allowing you to do far more than any other player. Plus, it will continue getting better due to continuous upgrades, massive system memory, and the incredible Cell processor powering it all.
People say the only downfall with the PS3 is that it currently does not decode DTS-HD MA or bitstream the lossless codecs to a receiver for active sound management. Sony is working on DTS-HD MA decoding, and I would be surprised if Sony didn't eventually add active speaker management into the PS3 as well, like they did on SACD players. That would allow users to regain some of the control lost in their receivers due to the PS3's PCM output. |

Time to "upgrade". I have two PS3's and am quite happy. Nothing against stand alones mind you, just happy with what I have. No load, quite machines and consistant updates.

I've heard lots for and lots against a PS3 as your Bd player if you dont plan on gaming.
Personally i was in the same boat with deciding what to do. I never play games or care to and i heard PS3 was a great player. To make a long story short i chose a stand alone player... the samsung 1400 to be exact. I haven't had any problems, it loads fast enough for me, i dont know why people complain about a minute load time, thats just pathetic to say the least. Since i dont game i decided why would i want a PS3 which looks ugly to me among my other components doing the same thing a stand alone will do but look much better. Not to mention cheaper... I got mine for a little over 300 and the cheapest PS3 is just over 400... anyway... I guess the PS3's that i've seen play BD hasnt impressed me... and i dont dig the dumb navigation menus or the controller remote (although you can buy one for about 30 more dollars). I dont mean to bash on PS3,,, a lot of people love it and im sure for a lot of reasons.... just do your research and decide what you really want a BD player to do and go from there.... some people including me couldnt care less about profile 2.0 for buying crap off of a movie... i mean seriously, who would do that... |

You might wait to see if you even want the 2.0 profile. Personally I don't see a use for the extra content via the web, how often are you looking for more stuff from a movie that isn't already included on the disc?
The PS3 is in the middle of a transition now anyway. There's a new model coming out soon.. Don't be one to buy the wrong model and kicking yourself later. |

If you're not a gamer, I would sell it and then get the Panasonic BD-50 when it comes out (couple months). You will gain access to all of the lossless audio tracks with it and that is a major bonus!

stick with what you have, i just sold my ps3 and bought a Sony S300 and i think the picture and the audio is better on the standalone player, plus the ps3 is an embarrassment as a gaming console, absolutely pathetic with its 720p games and 35 fps framerate i hated my ps3. stick with the stand alone!
