Default Trade your Hd dvd player at C.C. for a Blu-ray player!

Circuit City is accepting hd dvd players that have been purchased in the last 90 days as trade-ins for Blu-ray players.
You will receive 100% of what you paid for your hd dvd player towards a blu player purchase.

I wonder how many hardcore HD-DVD owners are going to ebay their CC receipts to people that purchased them elsewhere.

Well, that's the perfect example of the idiot exchange policy.

IE: If you were dumb enough to buy into a failed format, they'll reward you for it.

That'll work for the people that bought a 2nd one or for those that didn't buy but a few disks. Those with larger libraries and only one player might not be so inclined. I reckon they could return the player and get full credit then buy it again discounted/open-box.

I think it is a comfort for those swindled into HD DVD (by their friends and family). For the others, I can't help but feel the way you do, jade.

Default A question and why this is a dumb offer

Soooo.... lets say you have a HD DVD player purchased from Circuit City, and you decide to take them up on their very generous offer.
You get home with your shiny new Blu-ray Disc player. What are you going to play your dozen or so HD DVD movie disc library on?

Since most of them are combos, you can play the DVD side on your brand spanking new Toshiba SUPER DUPER UPCONVERSION DVD PLAYER!

I still feel the same way either way to be honest.

You have slightly more sympathy than I do, those who got swindled should suffer like everyone else who votes Clinton... er... makes an uninformed decision.

Who could possibly find "A dozen or so" good HD-DVDs?

Oh man, that's no fun.
I wanted these HD-DVD gurus to wallow in their own misery.
Shame on you Circuit City.

I think this is a good thing. CC is doing it so it doesn't cost the Blu-ray companies any money. Also you have to buy a BD player if you choose to exchange it. That means more people with BD players which is a good thing. I wouldn't expect this exchange would result in many people doing it as its not advertised and they probably didn't sell all that many in the past 90 days to begin with.

If it speeds further adoption of Blu Ray, and Blu Ray media sales, it's a good thing overall.

For CC it's just likely the equivalent of a $100-$150 discount on a $400 Blu Ray player - they may not even lose money depending on their margins, and may gain via further Blu Ray media sales.

Best case maybe they can even turf these back to Toshiba and get something back from them.

i agree with you 100% plus the voting issue. But leaving the politics out of it. it would be a very generous and good offer if sony would accept any HDDVD player purchased plus the discs (even if its a huge library) and reward that person with PS3 or a good BD player + maybe 10 BD movies. this could help consumer to accept the transition.
