Question Seeing 120Hz image

Okay, I've read a lot on this forum about the uncanny 3-D effect of the 120Hz and motion enhancer. Some say it's even TOO smooth. Well, I've been wanting to see it myself.

I managed to find one XBR4 in a Best Buy this weekend. The card did not say anything about 120Hz but those cards don't often have a lot of the important info on it. And I didn't ask any of the employees as they have not earned much of my trust in knowing what they're talking about.

The image was nice, I'll grant you, but no better than a lot of the others.

Should all XBR4s and XBR5s have the 120Hz? Or was I seeing a base-model perhaps? Also - it was not displaying a BD image - just showing the Best Buy advertisement loop. Does the image I'm expecting to see ONLY kick in with a true 1080p source perhaps?

It is 120Hz.

Most BBs have a Blu-Ray player, playing a demo disc, hooked to an XBR. That is what I would look for. Trust me, if you see it you'll know. All XBR 4/5 models are 120Hz. It is the motion enhancer feature which gives the 3D look.

1200 Hz? Jesus.

That has to look realer than real life.

you would need to play a Bluray movie at 24fps for it to be affective. The bluray player itself must pass 1080p/24fps.

Thanks for the correction. Somehow got that extra 0 in my head somehow. Now if they'd only put an extra zero on the end of my paycheck.....

Hmmmm...okay, I'll keep an eye out for it again.

i looked at the 120hz before buying the w3000....from what i've seen and reviews ive read from owners of xbr...its not worth the price increase...and can be a headache switching back and forth...pirates 3 did look good on the xbr...but seems the 120hz is more of a gimmick..not so natural..the "floating glass frame is bad ass though...thats just my opinion

Yah, I've read you either love it or hate it. That's why I've been trying to see what it looks like. And I thought the glass frame was beautiful too.

i got my first look at this at my local hifi place, they had some HD sports on with the active and it looked very cool, but i was there to check out speakers so they threw in transformers and left the motion flow on the tv on. man it made the movie look for lack of a better term unfinished, it looked like a soap opera or the news and just looked to weird, it honestly made it look like a unpolished version or as if i was viewing special features before they get that finishing touch for the actual movie.

not worth it for a couple of games but i would like the option, as long as you can keep it off for all your movie watching.

People keep confusing 120Hz refresh rate with Sony's Motionflow Technology which adds image processing.

The 120Hz is really nice for blu-ray at 24p because it allows for proper pulldown.... this means smoother picture and no judder.

The Motion Enhancer interpolates between frames instead of just displaying each frame 5 times before moving onto the next. This is what creates the ultra-realistic feel.

I have a sony 120Hz tv and I love the smoothness of pans and such on blu-ray... I however do not like what Motion Enhancer does, so I do not use it, I simply let the TV perform 5:5 pulldown displaying each frame 5 times. I feel the 120Hz is very much worth it as I watch a lot of blu-rays, and would recommend that anyone buying a TV that wants to watch blu-rays compare a 60Hz set with a 120Hz set with the video processing OFF (Turn off Motion Enhancer, Motion Naturalizer, and Cinemotion for Sony's - I forget the name for Samsung's similar processing) and then make a decision as to what they prefer.
