Default PS3 question

I was thinking of picking up a silver ps3 from a site on the net. I have been reading up and I guess they are "region" coded or something like that.

Will that affect my gaming. Im guessing that I could only connect to people outside the US. ??

Just got a silver DS3 and was thinking of matching it up with the ps3.

Any insight would be appreciated.

On a side note, y does japan get all the good stuff ?

Games are region free so it won't affect your gaming.

You can connect to any PS3 anywhere. But you'll probably connect to the ones closest to you the way some games choose the servers (COD 4)

Whats a DS3?

Japan only gets the coolest stuff if you think a silver PS3 is cool. I personally like black more

I guess I just like variety. Right now our choices are black and black. Maybe a few colors wouldn't hurt. I had to order a new controller and thought I would try something new.

anywho thx for the info.

As far as movies go, Japan is region coded the same as North America for Blu-ray.

You can also set up a second PSN account to connect to the Japan PS store, and therefore can have the exact same cool stuff they get.

Also be aware the DLC could be region locked! So if you have a Japanese PS3 and your game is from the US, you might have issues downloading patches and other downloadable content!

With any Black PS3s vs any other color (AOC) PS3s:

1) The PS3 games are region free. On top of that, you can create accounts to match the region you're in instead of the Japanese account by default.

2) PS2 and PS1 games are NOT region free. With AOC PS3s, you can only play Japanese PS2 games.

3) Similarly, AOC PS3s will ONLY play Region 2 NTSC DVDs, which is the DVD region for Japan. It won't play Region 2 PAL DVDs either.

4) AOC PS3s are the same region as the Americas in terms of Blu-ray Disc movies. So you can use them with no problem.
