Default Maybe it's a stupid question about mounting a plasma...

... but how is the plasma attached to the wall mount or TV stand with wall mount?

I googled for some pics, and got only one or two where you can see a little more details from the rear of the TV.

For example this one:

http://www.avdeals.ca/omnimount/larg...nimountUCL.jpg

What I still don't understand... do you have to drill holes in the back of the TV? That picture looks more like there is a "carpet" glued to the TV and the carpet is attached to the wall mount.

I am just asking because I have two left hands, and I am already starting to wonder about my upcoming problems... lol

Flat screen TVs have holes in the back of them so you can use a mount with them. No drilling into the TV required.

No, you do not have to drill holes in the back of the TV. They are already there and are most likely compliant with VESA (Video Electonics Standards Association). There are probably numerous universal mounts that are compatible with your TV.

Thanks guys!

I started already to worry that I would have to drill holes in my future 52" XBR4

Btw... what's a good price for the Sony? The lowest I have seen until now is from amazon.com for $3,100.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Bravia-KD...9234105&sr=8-2

Hmm... I have to keep searching. Four more weeks. Yay!

When you drill holes make sure you don't use bits that are too long or else you will hit the panel.

Seriously, are you set on the an LCD or a plasma? At one point you mention plasma then you talk about XBR's. If you're still on the fence, I recommend Panasonic or Pioneer.

I have never thought about if it should be Plasma or LCD.

Until a few weeks ago (before I started to read the posts in this forum on a regular basis) I was set for the Sharp Aquos 52" and a "normal" blue-ray player (Sony or Sharp).

Then I started to understand that obviously the PS3 is one of the best blue ray players, and now I want to get the PS3 for playing the blue-rays.

The same happened with the choice of the TV. I read many good things about the Sony XBR4/5 and I started to take a closer look at Best Buy etc.

Indeed it has an awesome picture, and I have always noticed that (when I looked at the Sharp pq and Sony pq at Costco for example).
However, initially I didn't plan to spend more than $2,500 for a 52", but eventually I switched idea and decided to spend up to $3,000 (ok or maybe $100-200 more as an absolute limit).

I mean there are several TVs I like... Today I saw a 56" (I think it was 56) and even 60" from Samsung and the pq looked also awesome. Just a little bit over my budget lol.

So I guess I will go for the XBR, because first of all the pq looks awesome (for me as a non-expert), and the TV itself looks also great. I know it may sound stupid for you guys, but for me it plays also a role how the TV itself looks in the living room (of course I wouldn't buy a TV just because of it looks... but the combination of both would be nice).

If you can stretch your budget a little bit more, consider the Pioneer 5010FD.
