Angry Warner Blu-rays not up to par

I have a Samsung 1080p 25,000 to 1 contrast ratio TV by far a great picture animated Movies like the Simpsons and open season and cars are absolutely liquid and razor crisp detail even the pirates movies look great, And yes running all Monster equip and HDMI"S. But as soon As I put in Scooby doo by Warner, Hello grainy. In the name of Charles Barkley "turrible turrible picture those knuckle heads at warner" I thought I'd give em another shot with 300 how about another loaf of bread with all that grain! you can keep puttin em out but I wont by em. 300 looks 300 times better on my SonyVVega with a standard DVD! NO kiddin! Didn't Warner make batman begins? I think so, The dark night with the worst acne grained face! cant wait to see that one.LOL

It's called film.. get use to it. You will see a whole lot more of it from all studios.. Not everything is going to look squeaky clean as not all movies are computer tweaked to perfection.

As for Scooby-Doo, I have a sneaky suspicion grain was used to hide CGI and give it more of a realistic feel (as silly as it may sound).. The grain isn't terrible at all.. Maybe you should turn you're sharpness down some

I have to agree with saginaw. Maybe its just Scooby Doo. I know a lot of the earlier releases, not just from WB, had complaints about soft pq but the newer releases are fixing that. Just watched 'I am Legend' and it looks fabulous on blu.

These are the kind of complaints that do have credence, but only for the Warner titles prior to 2008! Before this year they were just porting their HD DVD video transfer onto Blu-ray, which means that the bandwidth limitations of HD DVD were transferred over as well.

Check out this page https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...by=releasedate to find out release dates before posting complaints. We already know what you are going to say.

P.S. As for animated movies... they are completely fabricated in a CGI environment. Since they have no film or film processing to deal with, they are always going to look better than live footage. But, 'Happy Feet' is a Warner release that looks fantastic, even though it's an HD DVD port.

That was 100% deliberate by the director and cinematographer.

Have to say I find your post amusing. You rip a movie made with tons of grain then complain about the grain. Did you even see 300 at the movies, grain central. Funny how you compare an 100 percent animated movie with one that is not. Like, hello of course the animated movie is going to look better. One last thing all monster equipment means you are ill informed about audio equipment. A little research will tell you that you got taken at the store. Monster is not better thant the $5 cables you can buy else where.

300 is supposed to have grain and dont just diss warner brothers check out harry potter the video on them is awesome especially the fifth one. Also check out tmnt from warner it's absolutely amazing. It just kind of depends on the film i mean a christmas story also from warner could have been alot better so it kind of depends on the movie. It isn't just the studio.

You also may want to calibrate your LCD. CGI movies are very forgining but film movies look 100 times better on a properly calibrated LCD.

Well you also have to remember that WB has purposely kept the space used on Blu-ray's down just so they can fit it on the HD DVD version. I am not saying they suck but WB has definitely been a mixed bag with their releases. Hopefully now that they don't have to worry about the HD DVD version we will see less of a mixed bag and more high quality releases on Blu-ray.

I thought Scooby Doo looked pretty good and don't remember being disappointed at all (it's been a while since I've watched it though). Make sure the sharpness on the TV is turned down (0 seems to be the most recommended setting for sharpness). It's possible that it could be magnifying the grain (i.e. making it look worse).

Just checking a couple of reviews, the PQ was 4.5/5 at High-Def Digest and 4.5/5 at Home Theater Spot. Of course, it was released early so the comments then might not hold up as well today comparing it against titles like I, Robot, I am Legened, POTC, etc.

So how does it look on BD? Spectacular! While I wouldn't call it perfect, it is damn near it. Fine detail is very good, showing off the intricate set details on Spooky Island. The color saturation is where this one shines though, especially the Orange of Velma's sweater and the Red from Fred's scarf. Also, the rich lushness of the tropical forest on the island looks very lifelike and makes me yearn for a tropical vacation!

Grain is never overbearing but is present giving the presentation a very "film like" look. Compression is never an issue either with this VC-1 encoded transfer. In fact, when checking the bitrate meter on my PS3, the bitrate was clocking in the high teens and low twenties for most of the movie. But, I take the actual readings with a grain of salt in not knowing if the bitrate also includes the audio mixed in as well.

only because it looks so damn good. 'Scooby-Doo' is just such a temptation. It looks wonderful on Blu-ray, and nothing short of driving a rusty meat hook through the malformed cranium of Matthew Lillard can stop you from bowing before its brilliance.

Warner has again done one of its simultaneous Blu-ray/HD DVD double-take releases, repurposing the exact same 1080p/VC-1 encode on both versions, and it truly sparkles. Colors are vibrant, with eye-popping primary hues that really do leap off the screen.

Colors also don't bleed or look particularly noisy despite the excess, and fleshtones are about as natural as can be expected with a movie like this. The sense of depth and reality to the image is really superb, with all of the garish costumes and sets finely textured down to the most minute detail. And the source material is just about immaculate, having been given the usual CGI waxing that makes the actors look less flesh-and-blood, and more like robots.

You know it's less visible in motion?

Here's the post I got it from- there's also an HD DVD version with grain reduction, apparently.
