Default So mad!! Blockbuster is closing

my blockbuster video store in my town is closing this month. i am so mad as they are the main rental store in my town. there is only one smaller video rental store called Olympic video and they kinda suck for movies. they dont have any blu's and they only get a few titles in at a time. i guess with Blockbuster closing they will have to step up to the plate with providing for the public.

i guess that BB is going out of business in my town due to no more late fee's people keep the movies for a whole week with no fee and the store loses out of rerenting it again during that week. so i think they lost alot of money that way.

anyways it just sucks for me now!!

Sorry to hear that.
Has there been some kind of announcement that there will be further closures?

I can only suggest to try NetFlix, they have gotten a lot better and faster regarding Blu-ray rentals in the past few weeks. Especially for new customers, you might get the more sought-after titles a lot faster.

I feel your pain, I guess Netflix is the only option.

That does suck, but there is always a brighter side to any story. NETFLIX is your friend. Give em a try. They are the reason BB is going out of business there, and they are not doing so well here either. I don't have an account yet, but from what I hear from the people of this forum; NETFLIX is the way to go. BB attempts to compete with "no late fees" and they still have "2 day rental" on all of their new releases.

Thats weird. There maybe no more late fees but you do have a certain amount of time to keep it until they tell you to bring it back or buy it. Well that's what they do over here anyways. I bet that smaller store doesn't have BRs.
You must live in a small town. Because thats the only thing I can think of. They can't keep up with the payments.

I have a buddy of mine that works for Blockbuster. He told me that they are actually planning to close about 30% or so of their stores due to lack of profits as of late. Competition from Netflix and as stated before, people not returning the movies soon enough for them to re-rent them is the biggest factor. They closed down one about two blocks from me....$2.99 USED DVDS and a few $6 Blus....I spent like $100 that day

yes it did have one section of blu movies and they were going to expand to more, but then this happens without warning

Mine closed at the end of Feb. Our area recently passed a bill allowing Table games at our greyhound race track which is about a half a mile from the store. So they almost tripled the lease for Blockbuster's location, so they closed, I guess they think with the new changes upcoming to the track the surrounding area will become more valuable.

We have a Hollywood Video (much closer) but its independently owned and not part of the chain, most of the DVD's are full screen there. The closest Blockbusters (3) are all about 12 minutes away.

Never saw the point of doing that. I remember when they first started doing it. We joined and it took forever to get the movies and send it back for new ones. Then they started the thing were instead of sending it back you can take it to the nearest BB.

I was upset when the one closest to me took part in a trial where they reduced the stores by half to see how it would go and then ended up staying that way. Guess I should be glad it didn't close. Anyway, sorry to hear about the one in your area closing. I wonder if that's a sign of things to come.

Blockbuster has not been doing good lately. Eventually it's either online has to go or the stores has to go. They've been loosing money to operate both.
Netflix share has been going up and up.
With all the Redbox poping everywhere, BB has been losing a lot of customers to that too.
I really think they will close all the stores in the near future.

Netflix has been really good with Bluray lately since the demise of HD-DVD.
I am legend has been on my queue as availble for couple days now.
Since I have already seen it in theater I ended up moving some other movies on top of the list first.
Give them a try.
