Default maybe u guys could help me on the placement of my surround speakers

i have a few option
place those 2 rear lower, within those two rectangles
place them right behind my ears, infront of the table behind the center.
leave them the way it is and raise the db volume so i can hear them louder? it might not be directional though =(

A few advice would be nice, i'm very picky with my surround sound, i wanted them to sound as good as they could while maintainin the certain look of my theater.

thanks

I suggest lowering them to about 1 foot above ear height. maintains a nice clean mounted effect and brings the surrounds into efficient listening range.

Leaving them where they are and raising the Db level will only result in strange echo/delay effects as the sound will technically have to bounce off of your screen and come back to you before you can hear it.

If you really want to leave them where they are now, the only option is to spin them so that they are almost facing straight down (ever so slightly forward).

Best of luck in whatever you decide.

EDIT: I noticed aftwerwards that there is a third speaker in there. Are all 3 speakers surround? 6.1 or 7.1? If it's 6.1 then your listening space is incredibly unbalanced as it is. Your surround is very LEFT SURROUND heavy since one speaker is 10 feet away. If 6.1, I'd move that speaker in. Your outside surrounds should be just on the oustide of your listening position. If it's 7.1 and the other speaker on the unseen wall is equally distanced, that's fine.

lol, no, they are 7.1 there is 1 more on the other side that isnt in the camera view.

i do have to move them up toward the screen just a bit so their first reflection would hit the panel i built.

Technically in a 7.1 setup the surround speakers go to the left and right of the seating position and the rears behind. Don't worry if they are exactly the same distance apart, your processor should be able to compensate. One other thing it appears in the picture that the couch is against the rear wall, this is bad, you can generate a far more coherent
sound field if you move the couch away from the wall even a couple of feet and tilt the rear speakers down if they must be that high.

I do agree with moving the couch out from the wall for several reasons. By putting the couch right against the wall, you are placing your ears in a high pressure zone for bass modes. If your subwoofer is located in a corner as well, you are going to hear your room's modes very clearly. Without equalzation to correct this, your bass response will have peaks(the valleys are inaudible) that will negatively effect the bass response of the sub. This could also effect how much detail you hear from music and soundtracks.

I do not agree with aiming the surrounds downward as that changes the direct to reflected energy reaching the ears. If you move the couch forward a bit, you will find the imaging and evelopment will improve dramatically. The further you push yourself from that wall, the more improvement you will hear. It will definately sound more open.

The side surrounds should be more forward than they are, more to the sides of the viewing/listening area. The is especially crutial since you're system is a 7.1 system.

I never rely on electrical means of getting identical distances to the viewing place. You start by physically placing all speaker as close to equidistant as possible. Then you use the distance settings to perfect things. I believe is less processing, so I try and do as much physical tweaking before resorting to electrical means.

I'd listen to Terrence's suggestions. He's really knows what he's talking about. (Hence "Sound Insider")

Go to this site and scroll about 1/3 down. There are three helpful diagrams for 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 speaker setup. Use them as a guide.
