Default looking for a new set up

I'm not to familiar with audio set ups so here I go. I just bought a 46" XBR4 and I have my ps3 hooked up to it with the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 setup. The Z-5500 does not support any HD audio so I'm looking for something new. I was thinking the Onkyo 605 but Im not sure about speakers. The set up will be in a sort of a 3 wall room so I dont have much room to work with. See the attached picture.

The room is about 8 ft wide by 11ft long. The wall on the right side of the couch is approx 10ft away so thats where my problem is. Everything else is close and I dont think that will be a problem.

I don't know if i should go with 5.1 or 7.1, or how I would set the 7.1 up. There are two systems I am looking at Onkyo HT-SP908 (Includes 605) or the 605 with Klipsch Synergy Quintet III (would still need to buy a Sub). The HT-SP908 I feel may be more in my price range. What are your thoughts what should I do?

Rotate set-up 90 degrees, if possible.

that's what I was thinking; it would make everything seem less crammed in.

Yeah I thought about that but it would be a lot of work and the couch take up the entire width of the room

And with the wall further away, he could go with a 7.1 system. Or he could go 7.2 and knock his new tv off the wall.

Me too, i'd switch where your tv and computer are and go from there.

Edit just read your post about the couch, what about on the other wall behind where the photo was taken, is there room for your telly on that wall??

The Klipsch Quintet III is a great system. Klipsch will sell you 2 more sats directly when you are ready for 7.1 (about $160 for 2 del'd)
The Klipsch 10" sub is a good match, and Best Buy occasionally runs a combined sale on both.
I don't know if the 605 has full HDMI support, but that should be a must, as should support for the mew Dolby True-HD, and DTS Master Audio.
The new Sony STR-DG820 and 920 do both an a very reasonable price.
Great choice on the TV!

I have been sitting here thinking about options and one I thought about, would be to get rid of the couch and possibly get 2 home theater seats. Anyone know of any cheaper home theater seats?

The 7.1 would be a better deal and I think I could get them set up if I rotated everything. Do you think it is possible to somehow mount the center back speaker to ceiling tiles?

Here are a couple articles that might help:
Speaker selection: http://www.finishabasement.com/home_...r_speakers.htm
HT setup: http://www.finishabasement.com/home_...ater_setup.htm

I have a similar setup in my 'mini theater'. The TV is only about 8' from the back wall (where the couch is). I have a Pioneer 815 receiver and an Aperion 5.1 setup (422s for front & surrounds, 422C for center, 8" sub, $799). The fronts & surrounds are on stands.

I'm thrilled with the setup and quality of the Aperion speakers! They fill the room with sound and look and sound awesome! If you buy them and don't like them, you can take advantage of their 30 days no questions asked return option. They'll pay for shipping both ways too! I recently bought a 2nd Aperion system (5.1, 533 Towers, 534SS surrounds, 12" sub, ~$2,300) for my new basement home theater and am even more impressed with their sound quality!

The way your couch is setup, you can't really do 7.1. You'd have the speakers right in your head when you're on the couch.

+1 on the aperion system ..

they just updated their line of speakers.. Much better tweeters and not as harsh as the older line.. I just received the newer 5B bookshelf and they are better than the older 532 in the higher frequencies and are very smooth.
