I think they're both fine units, but the Marantz probably has the edge in terms of sound quality (see the review in this month's Sound & Vision). It also has 4 HDMI inputs vs the Denon's paltry 2...

I'm currently eyeing up the SR8002--as well as the Onkyo 905 and perhaps the Denon 4808. I can't afford the spearates I'd really like. :-)

Just looked at them both today , I like the SR-7002 for the price ,the SR-8002 is great but only differenc is the wattage 140 vs 110 watts at a $600.00 diff, I don't need the extra power with the Klipsch speakers I run..This will be the 3rd Marantz System I've owned and Love them till death or upgrade do us part ,Awsome just awsome in QUALITY..Also I'll be going with the Marantz new Blu-ray BD-8002 this summer , Steve the guy that owns the shop where i deal had the rep from marantz in and he said if you think the Dennon Blu-ray is nice wait till you see & here the new Marantz ,,It blows it away ,,Can't wait for these two...

( ps ) I too want the new AV pross & 8 chanl Amp from Marantz but too much money right now ,,I can dream though ,,Maybe I'll win the Lotto..LOL

yeah most ppl advise me to get the 7002 in terms of features , extra input and pricing compare to 2808. i got a noobie question abt the watts in the amp , if the amp capable to doing 140 watts per channel and my speaker onli capable doing 120 watts , will it hurt my speaker or any sound quality difference ?

If you care for sound quality at all - especially with music - go with the SR7002.

I think Marantz receivers beat denon hands-down for sound quality (between the comparable models I've listened to)

See if you can go to their site and download the manuals.

That's the best way to do it before you go for your first listen.

Marantz has the edge, but they are both good. Owned by the same company...

Denon and marantz are part of the same company so both will have excellent build quality. Marantz offers a 5 year warranty with their products. i did have a SR 5500 and it was a 600 dollar receiver but it competed with AVR at 2X that price. Yea they will be both similar because they are from the same parent company but,the Marnatz is going to have better detail in sound really noticeable in music (up converts to 420p), were the denon will have better video processor it up converts to 1080p.

You'll have no problems there. In fact, you're more likely to blow speakers by under powering them than over powering them (within limits!). Unless you crank the volume all the way up on loud passages, you'll not be outputing 140W anyway. :-)

No, I think I'd still go the Marantz route. BTW, movies have loud passages too! :-)
