Why do some DTS-HD MA tracks sound better than the LPCM track?
(on the same disc, obviously) I did notice on these BR movies that the sound level is slightly higher in the DTS-HD MA track, compared to the uncompressed LPCM track... are those two supposed to be identical? Thanks! ![]() |

my receiever is capable of is 7.1, but I never bothered hooking up two back channel surround spearkers...(so it just runs 5.1 sound) I'll defiintely get those 2 extra speakers hooked up before Golden Compass comes out! ![]() |

Very likely because they're simply louder. Human perception perceives "louder" as clearer
Either that or DTS is cooking their mixes again Quote:

First, i thought maybe it was for those who didn't have HDMI and used optical, that way they could still get the DD 5.1 core imbedded in the TrueHD, but that didn't make sense either, since they could just put a DD 5.1 track on it. |

The poorly selling Close Encounters BD has DTS-HD MA (yes, Lossless) & TrueHD for English, and TrueHD only for French & Spanish. In this case, it's likely there because Spielberg was an initial investor of DTS. It's not like there was a disc space concern, so why not? (Sony doesn't generally use DTS.)

like it was stated before, Speilberg has ties to the origin of DTS, so all of his movie soundtracks have always received the "SPECIAL" treatment on the DTS tracks. Almost night and day. Just listen to "Jaws" on both and you will clearly hear a difference.
