Default Old Universal Horror films on Blu?

Do you think that Universal may rerelease the classics like Frankenstein, Dracula, the Lon Chaney Wolfman, and the other classic films when they release the remake of Wolfman in November? Some of the films look like they would look really good (especially Bride of Frankenstein). Granted, some of them probably need some massive restoration (Frankenstein and Wolf Man had some massive scratches and stuff), but I would like to see how they hold up to 1080p.

I'm such a sucker for those films. I already bought most of them twice on DVD. If they do a good job on the blu-rays( or even if they just put them in a pretty new package )I'll probably buy them again.

I have seen many of these in 1080i on The Monster Channel HD. Not bad, but considering their age, I am very pleased with the oldray DVDs.

What I would like to see is Creature From The Black Lagoon released in 3D (as it was originally released in theaters back in 1954). Considering the high capacity of Blu-ray, Universal could easily fit all three Creature From The Black Lagoon films on one disc.

Whatever happened to the REMAKE of Creature From The Black Lagoon? I thought Ron Howard was going to direct and Bill Paxton was playing the lead. I can't find any updates on it. Perhaps it fell through.

Please tell us more about both the Monster Channel and more about the picture quaility of the 1080i movies.

If the classics are being shown on an HD channel, then the chances of Blu-Rays staring the classic monsters coming when the Wolf-Man remake comes about just went up.

First time I heard of that.

My concern with the old classics is that will their be conversion problems since it's so old and would blowing it up to 1080i be an eyesore?

That's Warner Bros, not Universal.

Well, there is going to be a Wolfman remake for sure, but all I know about Creature is that it's being made into a musical for Universal Studios Hollywood.

I shit you not.

Default Bride Of Frankenstein - I wonder when it will come to Blu Ray?

The Bride Of Frankenstein is my favourite movie of all Universal Monster movies! Come on Universal bring it on!

I really can't wait for this classic movie to appear in the new format , it would make a wonderful treat of a Blu Ray disc , but it no doubt needs a whole lotta work to get rid of scratches etc, but to hear that marvellous Franz Waxman score belting out and a nice crisp image of the famous Creation Of The Bride sequence as Elsa Lanchester and Boris Karloff as they fail to tie the knot would be great - really great!

They all need major restorations.

I see that Universal has now "green lighted" a remake ( On my God no !! ) of Bride Of Frankenstein , this may hasten appearances on Blu Ray of all the Frankenstein movies I'd love to see all of these movies on Blu Ray though I'd guess they'll all need a pretty major overhaul in the digital remastering of both audio and visuals!

I would love to see the Universal horror films on Blu-Ray! Especially the Frankenstein films directed by James Whale.

How about "I was a teenage werewolf", on BD, that would be cool.

They would not be "blown up" to 1080. The resolution in the original film is greater than any HD format, 1080 included. They would actually be scanned at a higher resolution (2K most likely) and then downsampled for Blu-ray.

Even old films from the 30s have the potential to look phenomenal - just look what they're doing with The Wizard of Oz.

Here's hoping for some nice restoration of these monster classics...

Universal Horror on blu needs to happen now. Hopefully they will do box sets for each character like last time. But with better packaging.

I thought the packaging was alright, but yeah, we need character box sets.

Agreed. 1080p is nothing next to good, restored film. I'm also hoping for restoration work. I was not impressed by the quaility of Frankenstein and the Wolf Man. The surprising thing was that their immediate sequels (Bride of Frankenstein and Wolf Man meets Frankenstein) looked really good. I hoping for some kick *** restoration, maybe even a Wizard of Oz type restoration. You have to admit that:

a.) the old Universal horror films are classics alongside Oz (at least the non sequels)

b.) despite the b&w nature of the horror films, an Oz like restoration would make the horror films look as good as, maybe even better than, when they first came out (I'm judging by how good the DVD of Oz looks. Quite frankely, it's almost Blu-Ray like).

So, yeah, when Frankenstein ('s monster), Dracula, Wolf Man, Mummy, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Invisible Man, and Bride of Frankenstein made their horrific debut on Blu-Ray, I'm hoping that they are beatuifuly and tenderly restored and beautiful looking (or is it grusome looking ).

Has there been any word on the Uni monsters coming to blu? I'm starting to get that horror movie itch and have even been building up my blu collection with horror films, just in time for the halloween. I never did get around to getting the legacy sets on dvd, but am now thinking about pulling the trigger on at least the Dracula, Frankenstein and Wolfman legacy dvd sets, that is, if no blu releases are on the horizon.
