Default The Blu-ray Community Top 31 Horror Films of All Time (please read first post)

It is finally October 1st (for most of us at least) which means its time to figure out the Blu-ray.com Community number 1 Horror film of all time. (Credit to MarkJ801 for suggesting 31 films instead of 25).

I thought I would continue after the success of the "Top 50 Blu-ray Community Films of All Time" thread. (Which can be found here: Original Thread and Results)

How does it work? It's easy. You come up with a list of what you think are the Top 31 Horror films of all time. Based on how they place on your list, the movie will receive a certain amount of points. The Top 16 films on your list will be scored accordingly:

1. 16 Points
2. 15 Points
3. 14 Points
4. 13 Points
5. 12 Points
6. 11 Points
....
13. 4 Points
14. 3 Points
15. 2 Points
16. 1 Point

Every movie placed after the 16th spot will also receive 1 point. So essentially, you only have to rank the Top 16 while putting the remaining 15 in no particular order.

RULES
1. Unlike the last thread which made you think what was the greatest film of all time, you may list your favorite horror films. It doesn't matter how bad the film may be perceived by everyone else.

2. Movies such as Alien, which can be two different genres, can be allowed as long as the horror genre is one of them. Alien is a science fiction horror film, which qualifies in my book. What doesn't qualify in my book, is Aliens, which is a science fiction action movie. If you are unsure, look it up on Wikipedia or IMDB and see the official listing of genre. If it isn't horror, I won't count it.

3. TRILOGIES or SERIES DO NOT COUNT AS ONE. It was quite aggravating in the last thread to see somebody's number 1 film of all time be: The Original Star Trilogy or The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. These are 3 films, not 1. So if you put the Halloween Series as your number one horror film of all time, I won't count your list. Simple as that.

4. Do NOT put multiple movies at the same ranking. Don't put 3 films at the number one spot then start the list at 4 following it. Put only ONE film at each rank, or I won't count your list. Otherwise if you had multiple films at number 1, I would take 16 points and divide it by how films you had at that spot. Which kind of defeats the purpose.

5. Since this is a favorite film list, be respectful of each other. If somebody had Anaconda at number 1, who cares? The point of the thread is to find out what the community as a whole thinks is the best horror film.

6. Deadline: October 11, 2009 12:00:00 AM PST. I wont take any lists after this. So make sure you get it in before then. This should be plenty of time to make a list.

That should be everything, I may make a few corrections tomorrow at lunch.

Now let's see some lists! I'll have mine up in a few days.

Films that qualify
Alien
Constantine
The Silence of the Lambs
Underworld

Films that DON'T qualify
Aliens
American Psycho
Blade
The Crow
Hellboy
Hellboy 2
Vampire Hunter D

I am doing 16 this time around.

One thing I've really noticed about all the horror films is that it's all isolated incidents.

01) Zombi 2 - I loved the atmosphere to it all. The isolation, the mayhem amongst the living dealing with the undead and so on.
02) The Shining - Again, the isolation in the dead of winter. King's stories are great and I feel it is one of Kubrick's best films.
03) Jaws - It seriously makes you think that there could be some bas**rd shark out there just hungry for man meat, LOL. And again some slight isolation as you're mostly the farthest out when Bruce gets you.
04) Silent Hill - Video game fan, 'nuff said.
05) Creepshow - "I. WANT. MY. CAKE!"
06) Friday the 13th: Part 3-D - He gets the hockey mask.
07) Cujo - Man's best friend gone mad.
08) Sairen (FORBIDDEN SIREN) - Great Japanese horror based off of the PS2 game, Siren 2.
09) 1408 - Possessed hotel room. King's the man.
10) House of 1000 Corpses - I guess the first, well to me, white trash horror film. I'm sure there are others out there.
11) Saw - It's a horror film that kept you guessing until the end. Too bad the sequels weren't like that.
12) Takashi Miike's Audition - Man, I tell you! It wasn't until the very end until it hit the fan.
13) A Nightmare on Elm St. - Freedy owns.
14) Frontiere(s) - Samuel Le Bihan pulls off the Skinhead role well.
15) Blood Creek - I know I am probably the only member on the forum to see it. It was good for what it is.
16) Night of the Living Dead - George Romero's classic.

Them (aka Ills)

I find the foreign stuff so much better when it comes to horror. Better than Hollywood slasher films!

The following titles have all been verified on IMDB as horror films of some type or another; I seem to enjoy the silly over-the-top ones and horror/action ones the best. For some odd reason, movies like “Hellboy,” “The Crow,” “Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust” were not listed as horror (I always thought they were horror in a way), so I omitted them. Oh well…

01: “The Shining”
02: "Silence of the Lambs"
03: “Army of Darkness” (aka “Evil Dead 3”)
04: “Christine”
05: “Sleepy Hollow”
06: “The Re-Animator”
07: “Braindead” (aka “Dead Alive”)
08: “Event Horizon”
09: “House on Haunted Hill” 1999
10: “In the Mouth of Madness”
11: “Creepshow”
12: “Creepshow 2”
13: “Planet Terror” (Grindhouse)
14: “The Thing” 1982
15: “The Fly” 1986
16: “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” 1992
17: “Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein” 1994
18: “The Ring”
19: “Silent Hill”
20: “Underworld”
21: “The Mist”
22: “The Invisible Man” 1933
23: “Alien”
24: “Saw”
25: “The Devil’s Backbone” (aka “El Espinazo del Diablo”)
26: “Psycho” 1960
27: “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” 1978
28: “Signs”
29: “Resident Evil”
30: “Constantine
31: “The Exorcist”

I consider most movies about killers and psychos as horror films, even if they are mostly dramas or psychological thrillers. I say go for it.

16: “The Ring”
17: “Silent Hill”
18: “Resident Evil: Apocalypse”
19: “Blade 2: Bloodhunt”
20: “The Mist”
21: “The Invisible Man” 1933
22: “Resident Evil”
23: “Resident Evil: Degeneration”
24: “Alien”
25: “Saw”

27: “Psycho” 1960
