Thumbs down DTS-HD MA is not as important as CC/subtitling for the deaf/hearing impaired!

I can understand you hearing people rely on sound. BUT need of DTS-HD Master Audio and PS3 update for it IS NOT IMPORTANT!

There are children who are having problem with hearing, or with any kind of learning disability NEEDS Closed captioned. Sony Playstation 3 does not have that feature and I feel that DTS-HD Master Audio can wait because you already have sound PCM,lossless, DD True HD or whatever. How can children understand movies or cartoons without closed captioned watching Disney on DVD or Blu ray with C.C. (not subtitles) Closed captioned provides subtitles for Deaf and hearing impaired (SDH) feature, not all Blu-ray discs are SDH and few non SDH Blu discs have CC meaning movie wont recongize any kind of background noise or whoever speaking in different language.

Not only for children, there are various age people watching movies with their ps3. Also, not many people have receivers, speakers or any kind of equipment that support / use DTS-HD Master Audio. Why? Maybe they can’t hear or have hearing problem and need understanding with Closed Captioned.
I mean, PS3 cost a lot money and they don’t have C.C and why didn’t they add that feature for ps3? Playstation 2 does play CC with any dvd. Why?

People would not buy HDTV(s) if it doesn’t have speakers and they would demand for the company to make a TV with speakers. What about us, who can’t hear or understand movies without Closed Captioned? THIS IS DISCRIMINATION! I have nothing against DTS-HD MA, but this is not fair they receive update for it. I am happy for you guys to have it but not all people are happy with next update.

No offense intended by this but, we are still in the early adoption phase of this whole blu-ray thing. Everyone has frustrations (I am not saying any groups are more valid than anothers) and a group of frustrated people got their wish. There are plenty of other updates to come and getting feedback to Bill Hunt, Penton and Paidgeek are the way to go. Good Luck to you on your requests. You and blindcat ought to get together and come up with some kind of game plan to present to try and spur the studios and CE companies on..

It would have the added bonus of possibly getting exactly what you want or at least steering the process...

not to sound like an ass....but im assuming company targeted audiences for new technology doesnt include the hearing impaired.....tv..dvd...most viewing formats dont start off with CC..............stating that dts-ma isnt important...is just like saying CC isnt important.....you should take your frustrations to the blu ray companies...thats the only reason why we are getting dts ma now.

shouldnt u be complaining about the studios not implementing SDH on their discs?
its not that the ps3 doesnt support that feature, it's the studios lazy asses.

not all people have blu ray discs, but kids does have ps3 and able to play dvd.. ps3 doesnt have cc for DVD or blu ray that have cc feature.. My wife called sony after we brought ps3 and found out that cc will not work on any dvd. Sony said there nothing they can do???

two years gone long enough, they should work on it and update the next firmware
thats my point

Someone has a stick up his butt regarding DTS.

Since it isn't hurting anything to support DTS-HD on Blu-ray and add the decoding capability to Playstation 3 it is not important at all to prevent implementation of DTS in those areas.

I'm a little slow, but is there a big difference between 'close captioned' and 'subtitled'?

I've never really paid attention but are there a large number of Blus that don't have subtitles?

Part of the reason I ask this as well is that I've never noticed a DVD saying close captioned instead of subtitled - except on a few TV show releases.

Please enlighten me.

true, but Sony is concentrating on the Blu-ray aspect, not the DVD aspect of this machine. Hell they put the whole format war on it. There aren't even a thousand movies available on the format yet. I guess I'm reiterating my point above, it's still REALLY early in the game on this one..

Virtually anything is possible via firmware. Write some letters, get on the horn, let them know...

yes closed captioned are subtitles are big difference. not all subtitles are SDH that allow background noise to be recongize, like crowd cheering, telelphone rings, etc etc.

closed captioned does, Blu or DVD will say CC or a Closed captioned box with arrow icon. (the o letter in closed word)

a big difference with non sdh subtitle with closed captioned

Would DTS HD Master Subtitles be preferred in these cases? I smell a future PS3 download...

I would love it if people would make HDTV's without speakers because all I use them for is a visual monitor anyway. Can't you activate CC through the BD itself (in the menu). Just turn the captioning on.

I understand your desire for a Closed Captioned feature on the PS3 and it is a VERY valid point... but ragging on DTS-HD MA... a feature that the MAJORITY of PS3 Blu-Ray movie fan owners have been praying 5 times a day since November 2006 for... simply is'nt the way to do it.

SONY is not a charity... it's a business... and they will release features that will benefit the MAJORITY of it's (PS3) users first and foremost prior to features with limited mass appeal. This is not saying that your desired feature is not important... far from it... but pissing off the majority of PS3 owners telling them that their desired feature is "NOT IMPORTANT" is

Ever heard of "you catch more bees with honey then vinegar?"

Perhaps you should attempt to endeer yourself to the majority of PS3 owners so they may support your cause... instead of shitting on their heads.

Food for thought.

Gone to see Montreal kick the ever loving shit out of Boston

Goodnight

a big difference with non sdh subtitle with closed captioned
Thanks for the explanation. That's what I thought the difference was, but I wasn't 100% sure.

I still don't think I've seen that many titles (DVD or Blu) that say they are closed captioned, but I don't really ever pay attention to that stuff. I'll be sure to take a look at my collection next chance I get.
