Default Good home theater system

Just wanted to know if this would be good home theater system?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....#productdetail

I currently have a panasonice system but the only inputs it has is rca. And after hearing dvd's play on the player and playing blu-ray movies on my ps3 i noticed the blu-ray's didn't sound as good. After some research on here I figured it was because of the rca connection but I don't have any input to connect it with. So I'm looking to get a new system. i want to get something that is more like the whole kit all together and in the 400-500 dollar price range.

you wont get alot of good reviews on htib here...i'd recommend getting a good receiver with your money...use the current speakers you have now until you have the funds for upgrades.....

It's always good to get the reciever separate. It's just something about the speakers that come with the reciever. My first time buying a setup I went reciever separate with a Yamaha 5.1 Speaker system (Same size speakers as your link). For the size of my room it's good. I almost paid the same as I would have if I went for the complete package. Speakers ended up being a little better quailty. But thats me

Your cheapest route and maximize the usefullness of the ps3 is probably to get this

Sony STR-DG720..

and these speakers.

http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Channel-Theater-Speaker/dp/B0002WTK4S/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=12083556 92&sr=8-1

should come out to be around 500 bucks and one quality system in that price range.. will be hard to beat this..

Thanks

This looks like a great package and within the price range I was looking for. Hopefully it'll still be around for this price when the rebate check's come around.

Wow...for $400, you kinda can't go wrong, but I'd rather see you buy 1 nice piece of gear and then add to it over time.

This can be argued and disputed over and over and over again, but Boxed home theaters just don't really cut it in the long run and it has been said for a long time that SONY'S internal transformers and power supplies are just not (electronically) clean.

The problem with buying a system like this is the automatic honeymoon phase that happens when you set it up and start enjoying and then the ultimate let down when you visit someone who has taken time to build a proper system. You will hear the difference and it will most likely bug you in the long run.

On the other hand, you can use this box system to build a better system a couple of speakers at a time and then eventually get a nice receiver.

I call that the Audiophile DrugMule method.

Either way my friend...make a choice and stick to it.

Enjoy it when you get it.

Its alllllllllll good in the end.

agreed, i would not buy a HTIB, just MO. buy a nice receiver for $400, then slowly buy front floorstanders, center and sub.

just one more thing. I'm thinking about getting the setup hagar852 mentioned. I'm new to all of this home theater stuff. The tv i have now is a panasonic, model # TH-42PX60U. How would I go about hooking everything up? I have directtv hd, ps3 and 360. The tv has 2 hdmi and component inputs in the back and a few other ones. The only ouput it has is the RCA and a Digital one. I think the Toslink. Do I connect just the audio portions of the systems to the receiver or does it take the video portion too and connect to the tv?

Get the Sony STR-DG720 mentioned. and connect your PS3, Sattelite box, and any other componente via HDMI (monoprice.com).
Then cinnect the TV to the receiver via HDMI.
This way, you can simply switch inputs on the receiver to whatever component you want.
Be sure to future-priif bi getting 1.3a HDMI cables.
