the chronicles of riddick blu-ray playback trouble

I just finished watch The Chronicles of Riddick on blu-ray and 14 minutes into the movie; it freezes and skips to the next chapter. It freezes when Riddick is talking to Imam (the holy man) and his family. Imam says "Such are our bedtime stories". Then it skips right when the "head stick thing" hits the planet. The rest of the movie plays just fine. I checked the firmware version and I downloaded the new one for BDP-S1 4.40. That usually fixes any playback problems but this time it didn't. Anyone with the Sony BDP-S1 have the same problem? Should I return it to Amazon and get another one or wait and see if Sony puts another firmware upgrade out for it. The 4.40 came out in 01/09. Thanks for your help guys.

I've had the same problem with my original and the replacement I got from Amazon. What the @#$%? I'm playing it on my PS3 and have a very large collection of Blu Rays, none of which act up at all. Now what?

For those who got bad replacement discs, try exchanging directly through the studio. It worked for me with my bad Serenity disc. I can find the email address if anyone needs it.

I picked up both the UK imports on this and pitch black and I have had zero playback issues.

Can I get that email address if you still have it. I went through their website but if I don't hear from them in a few days. I will use your email address. I requested a new disc from amazon with the same results. Thanks

Does anyone know if I can get a replacement for the CofR disc directly from Universal at this point? I hadn't watched my copy until after it was too late to get a replacement from the store where I bought it.

I had gotten around the glitch by watching the Director's Cut up to the problematic chapter, switching to the Theatrical Cut for that chapter, than switching back to the Director's Cut for the rest of the movie, but that's a pain in the ass to do every time I want to watch the movie.

I bought my copy from Amazon and had the same problem. Amazon replaced it and now it plays fine. I'm not sure if Universal will directly replace it but it's worth to ask them by e-mail.
