All the past losses they could keep off the books had to be applied with the closing of the division. This lets us know how big a loss they were already operating at. If the losses accumulated were in the 20 billion range and they had already applied enough of the losses to make the larger segmetn (Home Electronics) go down in previous reports, their total loss on HD DVD is in the 30 25-30 billion range.
All of which could have been avoided if they agreed to a smaller share of royalties on BD than they were getting on DVD. |

I'd like to see Matsushita (parent company of Panasonic and JVC) or Sony buy up maybe 51 percent of that stock, at least, and become majority shareholders.

They make good players..... but their support once they quit making HD DVD players will cause some seriously angry consumers out there...... Lots of research shows that consumers who get burnt by a particular brand, are likely to swear it off forever.... sometimes they just buy from the same company, but under a different brand (without knowing it)
Marketing 101 I guess. |

It is surprising considering how careful they were to point out support and servicing would be available. Here were are a mere few months later, and already people are starting to have problems with servicing. Not only does that raise issues of integrity, but also about reliability. Many of us wondered whether these inexpensive players were actually cheap. And it is beginning to look like they were. Gary |

Maybe they could start selling real lemons instead of the duds they put out.

How dumb are you? Neither company has that kind of ready cash. Not even close. Toshiba is a multi-billion dollar company that has its fingers in everything from consumer electronics to nuclear power. While embarrassing for the company, this is hardly something that Toshiba can't handle.

I've seen enough of your posts to wonder the same thing about you.
A good chunk of your posts are like this one. Condescending, arrogant, insulting, and sarcastic. It's not welcome nor is it appreciated and it will not be tolerated. Quote:
Past that, we see deals done in business all the time that involve all kinds of different assets besides outright cash anyways. Quote:

This also shows how many lies people like drunk tivo dealer told that they were not subsidizing hd dud players. THey also were the ones saying how broke sony was going to go. It also shows fire sales that toshiba did do nothing to help but can ruin your company. |

95% wow, that's insane how much it dropped that fast. Not a huge surprise though. Too bad they didn't start backing BD. I wonder how Sony's profit margine is doing since the victory. Anybody have any comparisons?
