Default GE profits plummet.

I wonder how much of the loses Universal's ill conceived support of HD-DVD contributed to this.

Want a sure fire way to improve profits? Fire the overpaid CEO's!

A trend started in the mid 1980's where CEO's started demanding huge salaries and were getting them. In the past 20 years CEO earnings are up about 300 percent. The average American is up about 3-5%. Maybe a little more.

No, don't you see? It's much better that CEO's get to walk away with millions of dollars even when debacles like this happen.

Have they said where the profits were coming from? There are a lot of factors that could have contributed. The writers strike may have contributed as well.

GE is a huge conglomerate. I doubt NBC Universal has a big affect.

That can be said for most U.S. companies.

GE's financial services sector can be attributed to ~95% of this. It has nothing to do with craptastic HD-DVD or the writers strike. GE is involved in everything from commercial finance to real estate, which have tanked tremendously. That's the ultimate culprit.

And NBC Universal isn't really hurting them, nor is it making them money. But I think GE's investors are coming to the realization that NBC Universal doesn't really fit well in the GE conglomerate, and will probably make a push to sell it off after the Summer Olympics.
