Exclamation 0utput video resolution settings on Blurayplayers

On my pioneer LX70a bluray player i originally set this output to AUTO which means it would default to the tvs preferred resolution, however when i put a blu disc on which is encoded in 1080p my tv defaults to 720p!! Why is this i wander? I would of thought with the discs being 1080p as standard it would go to 1080p? Anyway i now set the output resolution to 1080p, but im still curious as to why it would default to 720p, anybody had similar experiences?? My plasma is a full hd 1080p panel (for people that maynot of been aware)

It would help if you name the disc that you put in.

Strange. HDMI auto handshaking has selected 720p. Hope it is okay now, since you selected 1080p output.

It could be due to a handshaking issue with this particular player. If you get a chance, it is worth testing with another player.
