Default Thanks Everyone, got my new Plasma!

Just a quick thank you to all the forum members that have contributed to the various stickies in the HDTV discussion, and my own personal thread on the subject matter. Today, my new Panasonic TH-42PZ85 arrived early, and I don't think I've torn open a box, quite so fast since I was a little kid at Christmas. I can't wait for the break in period to end so I can really start tearing into some marathon gaming and blu-ray movie sessions.

I do, however, have a quick question regarding calibration and the break in period... should I wait until the break-in period is over before I have my TV calibrated, or can I do that right away?

Indeed, break it in, then get it calibrated. Congrats, you are going to love the display.

Although Panasonic says it isn't neccessary anymore for break-ins, I would still do it. Enjoy your TV man, I got the 42px75u (2007 model) early January and I just love it. Make sure to take that thing off torch mode though (vivid).

I am sure you'll love it to bits :-) It's a very nice TV for the price. It'll keep ya happy for 30 years. Let us know how things work out after calibration

Break it in first, but still be sure to calibrate it. I still suggest hiring a professional to do it, as they always do it best. But otherwise, use a BD calibrator.

We've got a great 85u calibration thread going at AVS right now.

These settings will yield about the best PQ on this tv you can get without a professional and you can use them on break-in(except Picture, keep it around 50)

Cinema(Standard and Normal are brighter BUT noisier)
Warm(standards ok if you like it better, but warm is more accurate)
Picture 60-85(doesnt change it a lot, but Im 80 because I like mine brighter) Over 90 is too high
Brightness 52
Color 40-44(whatever you preference)
Tint +3 to -3
Sharp 50
Hd size 2
all NR off and Black Level on light

The DVE Bluray is great.

Mainly avoid letterboxing and tickers for the 100 hours.

Keep the brightness and picture settings low for the first hour of break-in, and try to avoid channels with static images, logos, tickers, etc.
